Never driven a Caterham before, never been on track day before...


Tomorrow I'll be breaking both cherries

My gf bought me a caterham track day experience around Silverstone for my bday.

I'm really looking forward to it, but must admit i am a bit nervous.

Don't be, they are very intuitive to drive, just a bit cramped around the peddle box. My advice would be to take the narrowest shoes you own along with you.

Don't be surprised if when you brake it just sort of sheds all speed instantly- you will almost certainly find your self braking later and later into corners. Narrow shoes , as said, absolutely essential. You will grin from ear to ear and wonder why people ever buy anything else- I did anyway...

Yeah, you'll find the speed comes off in a Seven as soon as you release the throttle. I found at times that I hardly need to touch the brake.

Just driven for 3 hours to stay near Silverstone for the night and just realised that I need my licence counterpart.

Do you think they would still let me drive?

You will have a ball... brilliant and very rewarding driver´s machine...

Did someone mention narrow shoes...?
- Very very important or you will have trouble - something along the size of Speedcats or Mambas will be ok, anything remotely larger, forget it...

Regarding your licence - the driving events I´ve done like this I´ve never even had to show mine - you don´t actually need one to drive on a track, you just have to show a reasonable level of driving ability... Can´t say for Silverstone though as I´ve not been there...

My gf was in the car with me.

We turned round to get it in the end.

It's been a long old slog. Left at 3.30pm from Croydon and now we are about an hour away.

Thanks for the advice re footware. I'll prob do the driving in my Tom Toms, they have quite a lot of feel to them.

Weather has just been on the verge of raining but not all day here which is about 15miles away so it could be snowing for all i know now......

Wow what a day. It wasn't quite the track day I was thinking. It was a full day of Slalom in the Silverstone car-park (hehe)

But still had a great time. The caterham is a great little car and sooooo much fun without going silly speeds.

I'm glad I had slim footwear though as there really isn't a lot of room!

I wasn't too bad drifting around the corners but doughnuts around a cone was a bit more tricky.

What an experience though and will recommend it to my mates for sure.

The weather was fine all day, even had lovely sunshine for the last hour or so.

My first hands on Caterham experience was a slalom day st Silverstone. My second was a CDX trackday there.... I've just spent a couple of weeks trawling round checking out private 'for sales', and have just put a deposit on a Roadsport from Millwoods!! (picking it up just after the bank holiday....) Glad you enjoyed..... It is, however, just a matter of time my friend, just a matter of time!! (be warned - there is no escape, you are now officially hooked!) lol
