K Series engines

Hi all,

I am going to buy a Caterham in the next couple of weeks, and have my eye on a R300 SV. This is probably going to sound a but daft, but is the 160 bhp these put out enough for track work ? I'm used to driving Radicals.

If in a year or so I decided I wanted a little more power, can this be done ? How hard is it to take the engine closer to 200bhp ?

Simple answer, speak to Dave at DVA Power. He has taken my 140 SS to over 200 bhp and 149 lbft so I'm pretty pleased with it.

A K R300 is good for the track. I've done technical tracks and the Ring in mine and its fine.

No Caterham will ever be like a Radical on track.

No, I realise that and to be honest the difference is part of the appeal.

IMO no.

You will find it a bit wanting coming from a Radical.

Aim for an easy 200-210bhp and things will be much better.

R300 is plenty for the road, but on track you can be left wanting more, especially, I'm guessing, if coming from a Radical.

my 120hp cat is more fun on track than my rad was .i do mis the acceleration but you would need an r500 to get radical performance levels

That's about what I thought. I'm just looking to get something I can use on the road as well. So an R300 could be the one for me.

My impression with 7s is that when you want more power (and its seems you will!) you simply sell yours and buy another as unless you're on an R500 already there is a factory car all ready for you.
Hardly seems worth the hassle of modding the one you have unless that's part of the fun for you.
I remember talking to a chap with a new sequential boxed r500 who said it was in its niche at about 110...
