Has anyone tuned a k series engine or is it best to use someone like Dave Andrews ?

There appears to be a few k series vvc engines on ebay, is that a viable option.

I've yet to purchase a Caterham, but wonder if it's cheaper to buy a low powered k series engine 7 and tune the engine once I've got to learn how to drive the Caterham or spend extra money and getting a more powerful engine instead of tuning

Many thanks

Jon

Basic tuning on the k is very simple.
Last winter I bought a used 160VVC, replaced the VVC mechanics with solid cams and slapped on some Jenvey throttle bodies. The result was a nice 185bhp. I have very little previous experience with working on cars, and did it all (including removing the old engine and putting in the new) by myself.
There are many people who have experience with working on k-series, so it is very easy to get help. Dave Andrews was, as always, very helpful when I had questions (both on here and blatchat) as was the Danish caterham rep.
