For a new Caterham, lets say a 170 or a 340, how often do you have to get the car serviced? Can it be done by any car workshop (or even yourself) or does it has to be an official Caterham service or a workshop which is specialized in Caterhams?

Caterhams are not normal cars as such so no you can not take them to quickfit for a service, but there are many specialists that will service them for reasonable coats.

However caterhams are very simple cars so servicing them yourself is pretty easy, especially considering that most are home built so you know the car intimately once you have built it from scratch.

Asto intervals , time is almost irialevent as milage is usually tiny, if you do 1000 miles in a year youll probably be considered high use!

The problem is that there's only one official Caterham workshop in my country and it's located 540 km away from my city.

PT Sportscars are a reputable outfit and do sales, servicing and race prep and support.

They’re very thorough and I would recommend them highly but not knowing where you are, they are in the South.

Its no problem to do the service work yourself, or to use any traditional mechanic to sort out some more complex stuff like brakes where a second opinion is often a good thing.

See if you can find a more local motorsport team - and chat to them about options. They are racing machines at heart, and well respected as drivers cars, so most motorsport or high-end sports car specialists will engage with you and discuss your needs. The price tag might be a bit steep if they usually service Porsche and Ferraris though.

If you go self-service, keep meticulous records and receipts.

Most mechanics love the simplicity and purity of a Seven, so chat about your needs and see if they share your enthusiasm. If not, try the next one…

Ah,

But as as said, they’re a very simple car, particularly the Ford engined ones.
