zafira 150 cdti sri erratic tick over and smokes?????

I have just bought a 55 plate ZAFIRA 150 sri and at junctions the tick over becmes erratic and it smokes like bloody hell also it smells inside the car,any ideas????

Try checking/cleaning the EGR valve mate :-)
