Decent Android games

We have a basic Android tablet and my 9yo son asks to download games that are rubbish and full of ads. I wouldn’t mind paying for some to get rid of the ads and would challenge him but I have no idea what I’m looking for. Any suggestions?
He plays Minecraft a lot, which is fine, and seems to like racing games, and probably any strategy or building games. Has a lot of patience and we have no external controllers so stuff that works well with touchscreen only.

Cool, anything that's not manic and makes him think a bit would work. Last thing he played was Snake Clash and if his mum catches him playing it again the tablet's going in the bin!
