Not sure it has a leg to stand on "It claims that as Valve requires users to buy all additional content through Steam" surely buying Steam game codes through Humble etal undermines that argument.

That’s talking about DLC only being available on Steam if you’ve bought the original game there.

Restrictions on resale of Steam games seems pretty hard to defend.

Bit of a stretch isn’t it? Someone’s holding out for a pay day. All the platforms are equally “guilty” of the same thing. Maybe she should be adding Microsoft, Sony, Epic Games etc to the list.

What is the difference between this and beinng forced to pay an online bloody tax to Sony or Microsoft to be allowed to play online?

Steam was the main portal for over a decade, I often buy codes slightly cheaper elsewhere now, but they all go through Steam

Reading the BBC article on this it mentions that the claimant at the law firm are "representing" 14m steam users.
Is there a way I can make it clear to the lawyers, court, whoever that they arent representing me?

Steam is fantastic. The games are well priced and their service levels are excellent.

Yeah, it’s talking about dlc but that is also untrue as some (not all games) do support this. General thoughts were that it was down to devs to support it and most don’t.

It’s not a monopoly and the publishers know it’s 30% and obviously choose to still take the deal.

The whole thing feels frivolous and just a pay day for the lawyers.

lol unsurprisingly the comments are now turned off because most of them look to be in support of steam. fkwit looking to justify their existence, hopefully they lose badly and it doesn't affect Steam's UK position.

Crazy isn't it. all the other means to buy games the consoles for example and they gun for steam? Has no justification!

While it will do no good at all, and will be ignored, I emailed them to indicate they should not include me, and not include my 'number' in this action as I do not support it.

Found this on a reddit thread.

"Information for anyone who reads this and thinks, "this woman is a lunatic". Yes, Vicky owns a company whos soul purpose is to sue Valve Steam, Vicky files sues under the Steam you owe us company, Registration number 670230.

She uses wording and cases which is a similar to arguments Epic has made against steam, she is most probably funded by epic [citation needed] to file these law suits.

The company has filed many class actions against valve since 2023, most small time monopoly claims which never made it to trial. Though it seems this time, this one will go to trial.

You can see the court files here: https://www.catribunal.org.uk/cases/16407724-vicki...

Reminds me of a certain kimono wearing fox killer - a campaigner for 'stuff' (children's rights, digital rights, whatever) who seems to have turned it into a job, maybe with real support, maybe not.

If Epic was behind this using someone as an AstroTurfing front that wouldn't be a shock.

Honestly I can’t believe the quality, choice and value on Steam. Their model should be encouraged not penalised

Of all the companies currently doing business in blatant violation of UK law following the schrems cases, going after valve for these reasons is just utterly pathetic.

They actually responded to me. The response was rubbish and clearly generated, especially considering I sent them ONE email and responded to nothing I said, but they did respond. They should also surely take my email as 'opt out' as well.

Dear Monsterlime

Thank you for your many emails.

We appreciate that Valve has provided benefits to gamers such as yourself in many ways and that it is a popular platform. The claim against Valve has been brought because we believe that the commissions and restrictions imposed on developers are anti-competitive and have caused increased prices for PC games and add-on content. This would constitute a breach of competition law if it is established that Valve has abused its position of dominance in the PC games market. We are hopeful that a successful claim against Valve will result in the payment of compensation to the gamers affected, encourage Valve and similar companies to not engage in anti-competitive conduct, and lead to more competitive prices in the PC games market.

The claim has been certified in the Competition Appeal Tribunal as an “opt-out” claim. This means that individuals who made a relevant purchase are automatically included in the class.

If you wish to “opt-out”, there will be an opportunity for you to complete a prescribed opt-out form with your personal details. Please follow our website https://steamyouoweus.co.uk/ for updates and information about the claim, including details about the process for opting out of the claim. If you subscribe to the website, you will be notified of any developments.

Kind regards

Well if I'm auto included, they win and money somehow miraculously finds its way to me, it'll be spent straight back through steam on more games.
