as the title really? why hasn't Rockstar made a london map? - i would absolutely love that. Surely with AI and google street view you could knock up something pretty close to perfect without having to do 'too much' ? it could be an addon or a completely different game, it would allow double bites at the cherry - GTA 6 - london edition etc ?

Good idea? bad idea? go back to the drawing board Mr Electric ?

There was:

There was also a London map in midtown madness 2 and The getaway was based in London too.

I had this on my first (original) PlayStation and as I recall, you had to 'swap discs' in order to play the game.

i.e. You started the PlayStation with the GTA London disc in, which then asked you to replace the disc with the normal GTA disc, which would use its playing data to run the game, you then had to swap back to the GTA London disc at times?

All I know is that it was a ball ache rotate

Stopped all those pesky pirates laugh

It reminded me that for a lot of games you could also load them up, swap the game disk for a cd, and play your own music. Good example with Ridge Racer (and Phl Collins smile ) here .. https://www.reddit.com/r/psx/comments/m5a1qj/til_i...

If it was just a case of using Streetview and AI to knock up a map then why has it taken so long for them to release GTA6 biglaugh

Setting the game in the US works, they can fit all the pop culture references and most will be recognised globally and the audience can relate to it. London (and parts of the UK) could probably work, it would be pretty good if we did get an expansion in a couple of years once the game had settled, bugs ironed out, etc, but I suspect their focus will still be on the online element as it's a proven cash cow.

Outside of the US or London, are there any other viable locations they could set it in? Maybe Australia with a mix of big cities and Mad Max-esque rural areas. Other than that I'd say most other places would risk relying on too many lazy stereotypes.

Paris, if only for the entertainment value of the emergency service sirens.

I'm surprised there hasn't been a follow up to the two Getaway games. If there was i'd be very tempted to get myself a playstation if it was an exclusive title!

Seems like a mad idea in 2026....but give a few more years and computational progress might not seem that mad an idea come even 20230.

We're possibly closer year on year to having a central game engine to which AI patches in a map/street view and generates regional stereotypical NPCs.

For me it would be a twin city Edinburgh - M8 - Glasgow edition.
