Living in the US has its advantages sometimes; cheap petrol, and we got Forza II a week or so ahead of the UK. I'll be writing a proper review for Ars Technica in a few days, but thought people here might be interested in a first impression.

It's bloody great! The tracks look great, especially at 60 fps. Not so keen on the fact that the first few races you have to do are all variations of the test track, but beggars can't be choosers.

Engine swaps are pretty cool. Dropping a 1983 911 engine into a 914 sounds like a better idea than it turns out to be.

One of the repainting options includes all the original colours offered by the manufacturer. Japanese people seem to be able to work miracles with the paint editor. I didn't have the patience.

The ring looks good; better than PGR3 IMO, but I've not been to the real thing, so what do I know? One of the time trials has you lapping the place in a Rothmans 962C though:

Anyway, if anyone fancies a race, let me know. Gamertag is DrJonboyG

Ooh, thanks for the headsup. When I saw how early you get the 914, engine swap was the first thing I thought of. What car did you start with? I am not sure I can face a TT, despite it being the obvious option for people in the EU.

I went with a Corrado VR6.

Please can you do some exhaust upgrading and let me know if:
Each one sounds different ?
Is there any backfire/popping ect ?

How good are the cars overall exhaust sound ?

I found with the demo, I had to take the enviro, tyres and collisions down a LOT.

Yes, changing air intakes and exhausts does alter the sound, but I've not noticed any backfiring.

I havent played ANY racing games for the 360, just GOW and G.Recon etc.

Im thinking of getting Forza but: As a Gran Turismo purist, will I be dissapointed with Forza? :scratchin:

as you have at least a year to wait for GT5, im sure it won't disappoint that much

If you might be dissapointed by AI that isn't pathetic, by online play that's excellent, by realistic physics simulations instead of arcade handling, then yes, you'll be mighty dissapointed.

If you answered no to any of those questions, you'll love it.

Seriously, the only thing GT has going for it is the way it looks.

I never understand a 'purest' point of view... I mean, if there are better games (and usually there are... like rFactor and a G25) just get them.
Same as people who are constantly warring between PS3 and 360... just buy both

It depends - car handling in Forza is much more realistic than any of the Gran Turismo series (well in Forza(1) it is so I'm assuming Forza 2 is as well) so if you like the arcadey feel of GT you may not like Forza so much.

However if you like cars which actually handle reasonably similar to the real ones, then Forza blows GT clean out of the water.

Quoted for truth. My wife eventually persuaded me to buy an Xbox and try Forza, as I was a huge GT fan. I've never looked back.
