Forza II first impressions

Living in the US has its advantages sometimes; cheap petrol, and we got Forza II a week or so ahead of the UK. I'll be writing a proper review for Ars Technica in a few days, but thought people here might be interested in a first impression.
It's bloody great! The tracks look great, especially at 60 fps. Not so keen on the fact that the first few races you have to do are all variations of the test track, but beggars can't be choosers.
Engine swaps are pretty cool. Dropping a 1983 911 engine into a 914 sounds like a better idea than it turns out to be.
One of the repainting options includes all the original colours offered by the manufacturer. Japanese people seem to be able to work miracles with the paint editor. I didn't have the patience.
The ring looks good; better than PGR3 IMO, but I've not been to the real thing, so what do I know? One of the time trials has you lapping the place in a Rothmans 962C though:

Ooh, thanks for the headsup. When I saw how early you get the 914, engine swap was the first thing I thought of. What car did you start with? I am not sure I can face a TT, despite it being the obvious option for people in the EU.

I found with the demo, I had to take the enviro, tyres and collisions down a LOT.
Yes, changing air intakes and exhausts does alter the sound, but I've not noticed any backfiring.Each one sounds different ?

If you answered no to any of those questions, you'll love it.
Seriously, the only thing GT has going for it is the way it looks.

It depends - car handling in Forza is much more realistic than any of the Gran Turismo series (well in Forza(1) it is so I'm assuming Forza 2 is as well) so if you like the arcadey feel of GT you may not like Forza so much.However if you like cars which actually handle reasonably similar to the real ones, then Forza blows GT clean out of the water.

Quoted for truth. My wife eventually persuaded me to buy an Xbox and try Forza, as I was a huge GT fan. I've never looked back.
