PS3 from the USA or Singapore - Will they work in the UK?

Hello all.

I'm thinking of buying a PS3.

I travel a lot to the US and to Singapore.

I've heard the US model is much better (and cheaper).

The US has a different TV system doesn't it? So will a US PS3 work on my UK TV?

Or one bought in Singapore?

Hmm. Hi-def tv's are universal though? So you should +be able to use it on a high def tv no problem. Ignoring the power needing to be transformed, you may have a problem with regional dvds. However I'm only speculating here and really should have shut up

US PS3s definitely work here. i have one. you dont need to transform the voltage as it has a built in transformer. you will need a new plug though ofcourse.

i dont think it will work with uk DVDs but i havent fully tested that yet. it is however an awesome piece of kit.

Singapore is generally compatible with the UK, as they were a 'colony' for many years. They're 220 volts, and I know their computer games use the same version of Windows as the UK, but not the USA.

Worth reading up on AVforums in the PS3 sections.
DVD region will be whatever the local one is. As will Blueray region.
Games will work. There might be some oddities with the online gaming IIRC.

Simlim Square and Simlim Towers, I used to frequent those places quite often when I lived over that way

A non-euro ps3 will not play uk region blu-rays, dvds or PAL Ps2 games. It will work ok on an hdtv. The ps3 games are region free, however you may not be able to play US games on a UK sdtv.

Basically, you get what you pay for. Personally i'd buy one in the uk.
