Forza 2 is pretty disappointing....
Discussion
Had Forza 2 a couple of days and personally, don't think its a patch on GT4 (graphics aside obviously). Why?
Too few tracks, and some are really boring unlike those in GT4 which seem much better thought out.
Why only a rear view mirror in bumper view?
The data for the cars is poorly researched and full of errors. Won easily with a Lexus 430SC (which by all mag reviews is awful), however with an Evo 6 GSR got beaten(both same class)Both rate handling as 3.9 .Cross check some of the figures and you'll see how stupid the relationship between different models is.
GT4 has a multitude of game options/race options, Forza 2 is very limited in this respect.

What about GT4's realistic damage and online play?
You mean how the cars get scuffs on them when you hit the barrier head on at 200mph? LOL. OK, granted that is a factor in favour of F2, but I'd rather have a good track layout than hoards of spectators waving at me.Also, the tracks have no bumps. On GT4 the cars bump around when on street tracks(even Mulsanne Straight), this also happens on some of those roughly surfaced curves at the ring. In F2, everything is smooth as glass(inc those curves at the ring).

In fact I call bollox as I know my car bounces and judders and bumps when racing on such circuits as the Ring and Sebring. I also know the Ring has bumps as I have video (replay saved on my xbox) of my 962 getting beached at Karosel on one particularly amusing piece of kerbing and associated hollow in the track.

I have always been a GT fan, sadly enough I purchased all the versions on or before their release dates lol! I decided to get a 360 because I didn't wanna wait for PS3 and GT5.
IMHO Forza 2 is the best game I have ever played. I find a few things about the game annoying. For example, the car performance stats and performance index don't seem to be a good guide of the actual in game performance of a car.
However there is just a few things I find annoying and many things I love about the game. For me the damage modeling is fantastic and results in me rethinking my driving style! Also I have to disagree about the bumps point. I won an online career race on Laguna Seca because my nearest opponent had set his car ride height too low, which was resulting in it bottoming out on some key parts of the track. We were both running the same car.
I found the game slightly disappointing initially but that feeling wore off after just a few hours playing. Don't give up on it just yet.

GT4 has a multitude of game options/race options, Forza 2 is very limited in this respect.
What difficulty did you have the a.i set on?GT4 has a multitude of game options/race options, Forza 2 is very limited in this respect.
A mini would beat an F50 probably if you had all the assists on and set it to easy : p
Not sure what you mean when you suggest GT4 has more game and race options?
I like GT4, but it is like a palitoy or mother care special when compared to forza imho. It's all a bit too "safe" and arcade like.I was racking my brain to think whether i ever span off in GT4.I never used any assists (in fact many GT players never realise they have them on or where to turn them off) and i just can't remember doing it much at all. With no assists on in Forza 2 however, you have to battle quite hard to make good progress - the two games are chalk and cheese in terms of a realistic feel and car handling. Also, Forza 2 damage when set to sim mode adds to the races superbly.Get hit too many times (even once in many cases) and you may find that as well as you losing a few panels, your engine will pour smoke, the gearbox will not change up or down properly and will grind each time it trys and that your race is effectively over.GT4 was a case of smack into the wall as fast as you like and just carry on.No incentive at ALL to take things easy there.
I do/did very much like GT4 though, so don't think i am bashing it to much.
In fact i dug out my original imported Jap copy of it the other day because i discovered it has an option for 1080 display!
Not a true and proper 1080 of course, but it did make things look better.I only played it for about 10 mins though as i found it dull as dishwater compared to F2.
Forza truly comes into its own with the car classes and tuning when played online of course.
In a nut shell, you have a limit on the upgrades you can do before the car class changes. That could mean you can add a turbo but not cams, add cams but not a supercharger, drop the weight but not add the injection system etc etc etc and there are three or four options for each upgrade too which will vary the BHP increases etc.It makes for some really good races because each car will do something just a little bit better or worse than the other depending on the tuning.
Then of course there is the sound.Apples and oranges doesn't even come close to explaining the difference here.Of course GT4 is older and all that, but i don't think any GT fan was truly impressed with the noise it made.Forza 2 through a digital amp and woofer is just plain bonkers.
I also assume there will be more tracks and cars released too as time goes on via the live service, plus the auctions are a nice touch and the 'paint your car' side of things and photo modes are truly staggering if that's your bag (i liked the GT4 photo mode too)
For the record, i didn't like Forza 1.I just hated the way it felt when using the joypad but Forza 2 feels perfect!I know just how far to squeeze the triggers to avoid wheelspin or locking up the brakes and the steering feels much, much nicer.

No bumps and smooth as glass ? Doesn't sound like the Forza 2 I have been playing ??

Here's the reason for me why Forza2 beats GT4 hands down.....
Manufacturers trophys, Porsche 914 series, Standard unmoddfied 914's only. 9 laps, Maple Valley short.
I started the race on the second to last grid spot and by the first corner I got a fantastic start (the only aid I use is ABS, so starts are cucial) and had got up to second place, through the first long sweeper I managed to get alongside first place and started to drift out towards him. No contact made and arriving at the first left corner I hit the appex perfectly and drifted slighty to the kerbing on the outer edge of the corner expecting an impact at any moment from the (now) second position car. None came. Next corner he's right on my arse approaching the breaking zone, I stayed slightly off the racing line to keep the inside covered and realised I would have to break a little harder from here to get the car turned in. Still no impact. By the end of the lap I was a second clear and managed to add a couple of seconds by the end of the race.
Now you may think that the above sounds all a bit "GT4" in the ease with which I dispatched the AI drivers. So did I until I watched the replay....
In the first sweeper when I started drifting towards the AI driver he took avoiding action by easing off and diving onto my rear bumper. As I drifted though the corner in front of him he took avoiding action by easing off where the AI usually would not, lining himself up in the process for an inside dive into the next corner. In that next corner that I had to break harder due to being offline and he actually paniced a bit and went wide rather than smack my rear bumper. From that point on second and third were actually fighting each other for position rather than chasing me and it was this fact that allowed me to cruise off to a 3.4second victory.
AI drivers that actually behave like you would expect real racers to act. Never, ever happened in GT4, get on the inside of a GT4 computer driver and he will hit you as they dont seem to be able to seee the computer player.
And dont get me wrong, Like Digby I loved GT4 and hated Forza 1. I was given an original xbox and Forza 1 ages back but hated it so much I got rid and decided never to buy a 360. Played Forza2 for 15minutes and bought a console the very next day. In fact it was only last week that I made the desicion to get rid on my PS2 as I really couldnt see myself going back to it for the forseable future (PS2, 2 controllers, 2 games, got £83 trade in. go figure?)
And as for it not being Bumpy.. what cars you driving? Some of the tracks are such a challenge in the faster cars due soley to the bumps.

the dynamics of GT4 where appaling...game play is more important to me than ANYTHING else and GT4 was shite in that respect
Forza 4 pwns it EVERY time

A rear view mirror would be good though, very easy to chop someones nose racing online.
It's not ideal but I listen for engine noise and use the right stick to have a quick look round if I'm worried that there is someone to hit as I move around the track.stephen300o said:

Yes the AI is very good, if you put your nose in they'll chop across but if your along side they'll give you room.Gassing Station | Video Games | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff

You mean they use more real tracks instead of made-up ones? Some would call that a simulation
