Forza - erratic "hired driver" AI.....?
Discussion
I originally posted this on the "Forza 2 is disappointing" thread but it occurs it might get more replies if I post a seperate thread of my own.
Lurking Lawyer on the other thread said:
I've been pretty impressed with it after a week's playing - the car handling seems pretty good and the AI is generally much more competent that the GT one ever was.
One issue that I noticed last night about the "hired driver" AI though - I'd left an AI driver doing the Class A Silverstone endurance race, just to raise some cash while I was off doing other stuff, and then came back midway through to find he appeared to be pitting the 959 every 2-3 laps.
The telemetry showed that the tyres were only 6-7% worn so it couldn't have been for that. I saw him do this twice within 4 laps, but I'm guessing he must have done it more than that as he was in 7th when I came back at around lap 20 of 25, having left him leading at the end of lap one and generally lapping a few seconds quicker than the rest of the field.
He was a skill 2 driver (a Yank) so I suppose that MIGHT be a factor, although I think I used the same driver in the same car previously and it didn't have this problem.
Anyone come across something similar....?

Did you turn the AI difficulty down to Easy, Mekon? I did (albeit just for the duration of that race - I play with it on Medium, but simulation damage and tyres/fuel usually.
Using the same car, the same driver had won previously. I didn't stay and watch so I don't know whether he pitted at all though.
I've used AI drivers for all of the first 4 endurance races, most of them 55 or 60% commission guys, and all have managed to win. Perhaps this compulsive pitting was just a one-off and the guy needs a bit of therapy!

I hired a couple of drivers over the weekend for the 25 lappers.I left the settings on hard and assists off but i hired the
top racer, plonked him in my group B golf in one race and my Volvo in another.
Oh my, the race in the golf had be biting my nails when i walked back in to see how he was doing.
He and a lotus elise had a mega battle. My guy went into the pits only once and that was 2 laps after the lotus. As he exited the pits he pulled out juuuust in the lead (was second when i walked in).
They then proceeded to drive the next 10 laps or so almost bumper to bumper.Every time my guy gained some distance (and by distance i mean 2 or 3 car lengths), the lotus would pull it back.
I was sure i was going to come second and on the last lap the lotus tried to cut up the inside, managed it, put me into second
but lost the racing line just enough for my guy to take back first again.Tense stuff!!
In the end i still won an 80k and 70k bonus and a few reward cars, but the rest of the winnings went to the driver.
