360 online equipment recommendations

Well I am getting the Xbox this weekend along with Forza2 and hopefully C&C3.

Currently my PC sits next to the phone line and is connected to the internet via a modem and PC combo.

I want to obviously hook my Xbox up to Xbox live but due to the logistics a wire from PC to TV is not an option...so, what do I need?

1. PC router?
2. Xbox Wireless adaptor?

As long as I have identified everything I will need (above) can you chaps recommend me the best to go for in terms of cost v quality. I am happy to pay for a good quality but at the same time don’t want to spend lots and lots of money.

Links to online shops would be useful and also anything else I am missing

You'll need a wireless router and the xbox 360 wireless adapter.

Routers vary in price totally so you'll have to shop around. Stick to brands like linksys, netgear, dlink, cisco, etc and you should be fine.

You'll certainly need a wireless router at the phone line and PC area, however there are alternatives to the xbox wireless adaptor. Which in my opinion is way over priced! The alternative is a touch more complex to set up but cheaper. You'll need what's called a wireless access point which you plug into the 360 via a network cable, and it will then connect to you wireless router. It'll save you about £20, I don't have a link to hand but there are plenty on ebay.

That's pretty much what I'm going to try at first. I have an old Access Point gathering dust so I'll plug that into the 360 downstairs and then after a bit of swearing it should be able to communicate to the wireless router elsewhere in the house.

Gaming over WLAN is rubbish.

Really? I've never had any issues with it, are you talking in terms of lag?
I always perfer to have my router wired to my main pc so if I need to chuck files over from my laptop I don't have to use the WLAN for heavy data transfer
