First post on here didnt realise PHeads had a computer games section!!
Have posted this question on the AV forums UK site but I never seem to get a reply to any of my questions on there,I suspect they can gauge from my questions that I know very little indeed about the whole AV thing so can't be bothered to reply. Anyway I am hoping that some of you on here are more forgiving.
Okay recently bought a PS3 and wanted to connect it through my home cinema set up that runs into a projector the HT is samsung htp1200 and is connected to my panasonic HD projector with component cable.
The HT does have a hdmi out and the projector has a DVI in did buy the cable but connection never worked so ended up using component cable(it is very good anyway).
I tried connecting the PS3 to the projector using the hdmi to dvi cable didnt work so the only way I have been able to connect the two at the moment is with a optical cable for sound(ps3-HT) and the supplied scart converter video cable that goes into the AV connector on back of PS3 and into scart input on projector.
Is this the best way to do it?? I would rather connect picture and sound through the HT is this possible? BTW the HT has a USB host if that helps.
By connecting through scart will I still be getting a HD quality picture coming through the projector...from what I have seen the picture is pretty good certainly a improvement over the standard DVD but just want to know if its the best way to do it.
Finally If I could connect between the HT and ps3 with a single cable,so that the picture can be sent to the projector via the component cables on the HT that would mean a lot less pain(wiring etc..) Or is that not possible and a stupid question???

If you're using SCART for any of the connections, you're not seeing HD
If you want to use HDMI to your AV Amp then component to your projector, then the AV amp will have to be capable of transforming HDMI to AV, not just passing through to an output of the same type

I'm fairly sure you've got content protection issues.
The PS3's HDMI port is protected by HDCP (High data bandwidth content protection). Anything it connects to needs to be HDCP protected also, so DVI with HDCP, or HDMI.
This is most likely the issuue with the HDMI-DVi conection directly to the projector.
It could possibly be a digital/analog issue tho, DVI comes in both flavours, or one port that does both, PS3 will work with HDCP protected DVI/I or DVI/D ports.

Thanks for the advice guys...a lot more to this than meets the eye. I did send a mail to Matt(plotloss) and he did send me a very detailed reply,top man.
It does have to do,broadly, with the PS3 hdmi out and what it is able or not able to do,dependent on that there should be a fix in the form of a switch device.
