It strikes me as an odd rule to have implemented, I was under the impression that people were selling off their own designs or creations. They're not exactly pirating content here, if it was piracy then Microsoft should be able to sue people who distribute Office documents, as these were created using a Microsoft product. Asking for a small amount of money for a design that someone has put time into making seems reasonable enough to me. I know people who have spent several hours working on 1 car, divide money by time means they are asking 25p per hour so it's not exactly minimum wage now is it?
Not really an odd rule as loads of other online games have the same rules about selling in game items on ebay.
Despite you designing the car yourself you have still used game code to create said design and then placed the design on another piece of code (the car) that is still technically the intellectual property of Turn10 and being sold without their express permission. And I was always under the impression that making money on someone else’s intellectual property without authorisation was against some law or other?
Although the cars do have an online auction house within the game environment this does not use real money so is not included in the above. Turn10 can rightly ban any user from the online portion of the game without breaking any laws, in fact they have sull support from microsoft on the matter and are getting complete xbox live suspensions and bans implemented within minutes each time.

I was thinking more along the lines of if you liked someones artistic creation you should be able to ask him for it, and buy it if he's selling it, I didn't know that Turn10 had already made provisions within the game for such an exchange to take place. I guess it also means you need to have developed you bank account enough to exchange in game currency for other in game feature and therefore can not look outside of the game to buy yourself an unfair advantage.
