So yeah, I was just randomly looking at an xbox forum and apparently the hd-dvd player is dropping in price, but the thing that caught my eye is that the yanks will be able to watch 300 on demand over live from August 14th. How cool is that and how much does it suck that we don't get it?

Also as well as the price drop with the hd-dvd player they are also including 5 free hd-dvds including 300 I think.

Yes, US marketplace has a lot more going on, but before they did the region lockout, I set up a US login (using Google's address ). How I wished I could get those wasted minutes back.

On demand = pay for it = Bittorrent FTW!

I guess it's for the sort of people who buy mp3s from itunes.

Yep, you could always pay for it, but if you know where to look, why bother?

The XBMC is a fantastic piece of software, however the CPU in the machine isn't quick enough for a lot of modern content.

Given that the PS3 will run Linux without modification I'm hoping that someone will port it over soon.

You can already use the ps3 for media sharing, I stream everything through it music, photos, and video, it will only play mp4 and some avi until the next firmware update but I use TVersity to convert the video on the fly, works great and makes more use of the surround sound and 42" panasonic instead of being stuck with a monitor and pc speakers.

True but XBMC will play anything so I don't have to worry about codecs n such, also I imagine it would require that I have Windows or MacOS on my PC to stream from.

I think people have got MythTV going on the PS3, so mplayer does work. I'm guessing the w32codec's probably don't though Wouldn't surprise me if VLC isn't made to work on the PS3 as well.
