Thinking of buying an XBOX 360....
Discussion
Given that the PS3 is £425 and the 360 is just under £300, I'm beginning to get tempted to the cheaper console...
Basically, I just wanted to know fellow PH'ers opinions of the 360, and whether it'd be worth it (I might buy both in time, but for the next year or two, I'd only have one...)
Would you say a 360 with Forza 2, Gears of War and DiRT is worth the buy over a PS3 without Forza 2 and GoW???
Thanks for any advice

I just bought a 6month old PS3 from Ebay for 300.
All works well.. rigged up to my HD 40" its ace..
Remember its HD and its Blue ray and its wireless and you can put it on the net etc.. just check the price of a blueray dvd player and you will see what i mean.. you can also download free demo games etc... PS3 is not just a game consule, its loads more.
Its like having Mondeo or a BMW..
Thats my view anyhow!! let me know how you get on...
Best of luck

Yes, but connect a 360 to a pc with media centre and it kicks the PS3's arse. All works well.. rigged up to my HD 40" its ace..

360 is HD as well, you can download demos on the 360.
Xbox has Live going for it. Whilst it is not free, I think it is good enough to pay for.
Please Please No more my 360 is better than you PS3. they are both good.
If you want Forza, GOW and don't want to pay the extra for HD DVD get the 360. it's also go the 3 year warrenty for the 3 read lights which I am waiting for my 360 to come back from being fixed. for the 2nd time so thats a plus
If you want a Blueray dvd for your HD TV like I also do, enjoy some of the very good games out and KNOW in the future there will be amazing games out for the PS3 get that, the ps3 does have many more extrea features I have found over my 360 without hooking it up to anything else than a TV.
Up to you, If your not sure then get the cheaper option now with more games and look into the PS3 in a year or 2

Probably not the best analogy seen as the new Mondeo is rated better in many aspects than the 3 series... But yes I agree the PS3 is where the smart money should go in the near future. Thats my view anyhow!! let me know how you get on...

You can get a PS3 for £330 at the moment link
you can also stream all your media from your PC to PS3, have been able to since the last firmware update.
Xbox live is better at the moment but hopefully that will change with the launch of home later in the year and it will remain free.
Games wise the 360 is streets ahead at the moment but then so it should be its had a lot more time on the market, I dont see it offering much new though just the same old racing and FPS games with lovely graphics, personaly I want a new experience out of a next gen machine but this is just personal taste I suppose.
I agree with whats already been said in this thread that ps3 is way more than just a games machine and looks like its going to evolve loads. Its horses for courses realy eberybody seems to have their own opinion on both consoles and I dont think anybody would be disapointed with either, I guess youve got to ask yourself what you want out of it, what games you want to play and whats coming in the future.

The PS3 has a live site opening next month ... you didnt mention Blueray???
Oh no sorry you havent got that on the Xbox360
Here we go again..... Oh sorry, you haven't got an optional HD-DVD player have you.........Oh no sorry you havent got that on the Xbox360

Wouldn't buy either disks yet even if I did have one of the HD-DVD/Blu Ray drives until a winner appears.
As has been said, buy the games rather than the console. For me it has to be Forza, GOW, Battlefield etc.

I've not paid too much attention to the PS3, to be honest. Once it reaches it's full potential, what sort of a new gaming experience are you expecting it to give that the 360 can't / won't?Genuine question, really (really) not interested in an "X is better than Y" argument - the last one of those I enjoyed was the Spectrum vs Oric-1.

Its reported as of next year you will be able to use it as a freewiew tv box and as it has an HDD it can be used like sky plus, think the tv deal may be with sky.
It seems to connect to everything media based I have with no hassle at all, In the month ive had mine its become the complete media centre for my house, the upscaling bluray drive has made my dvd collection come to life again realy cant sing its praises high enough.
Blutooth connectivity is great, makes online chating easy
Now I've had mine a while and got to grips with it I can see what sony were going for with the one box does all thing and with the rate that firmware updates are coming out I can realy see it evolving and doing things none of us have thought of yet.
I get what you mean about the x vs y arguments, I was in high school when the snes and megadrive were out, that was real fun

I've got a 360.
Downloaded TVersity to my PC and using the wireless it now streams video, music, and pictures direct to the 360. If you downlaod a High Definition file, it plays in high definition, without the need for the HD DVD drive microsoft try to sell for hundreds...
The 360 is awesome, just as with most Microsoft products, you need to be able to put up with the odd crash...(I had this for the first time in ages last night, playing TopSpin2, annoying, but not the end of the world).
Hope this helps.

I think there are two ways to make the console decision. You could engage with the fanboy debates here and elsewhere, or you could just pick the one which looks like most fun. The first strategy is great if you are all "TEH GAME R SERIOUS BUZINESS YO!". The second approach has worked for me. If my mates all had PS3s, I'd go for a PS3, if they had 360s, I'd get that, and if they had Wiis, I'd see them at Wild Fruit.

is that TVersity free then?
how can i set my 360 up to be streamed HD content from my PC?
Yes TVersity is free. Fairly simple to set up, I did a guide on the 360 forums sometime ago. I'll try to find it. If your Xbox 360 is running through the HD on your TV, then a HD video clip on your computer will play in HD to your TV...how can i set my 360 up to be streamed HD content from my PC?
EDIT: Here we go http://forums.xbox.com/11041375/ShowPost.aspx

I use Tversity to do the same on the ps3, How are you finding it with the wireless? I've heard a few reports of a sound lag. thats what I used to get when using nero7 hence I switched
Yeah I remember them saying the latest release supported the PS3 and I-Phone. Dont have any issues with sound lag usually, on the odd occasion I do, I pause it, go get a drink, come abck and all is fine.Mike
