Xbox 360 Live Problems sorted (hopefully)

As some of the Forza lads know, I've been having lots of problems with voice chat in Live. I connect wirelessly to my router, which I recently relocated for an improved signal.

Whilst I'd set up port forwarding (though not convinced I'd set it up 100% correctly, though it is now), it still seemed very hit and miss. But last night I think I may have cracked it.

The solution was to lock down the IP of the Xbox 360 and then assign it as a DMZ on my router settings. This basically means that it can access the internet connection withouth the packet filtering/firewall of the router. This isn't something I'd recommend for a PC for obvious hacking reasons, but there's not really anything of value on my XBox except for some savegames

Anyway, it seems to have worked.

If anyone can give me a reason why having it as a DMZ is NOT a good idea - can you let me know I'll rever to port forwarding if not!!

Your NAT setting needs to be on open not moderate. Check your xbox live connection by doing the test in settings on your xbox, it's the last one at the bottom.(might work)

Thanks VK - but NAT is open and test reports it as so. Setting the XBox IP as a DMZ should make the NAT irrelevant anyway as it effectively gives direct access to the internet from the 360 with no firewall!
