Are there any downloadable flight simulators? I am looking for the rfactor of Flight sims?
If not can you recommend a good flight simulator that isn't too demanding of the computer? I have tried the MS FSX demo and it doesn't run well.
I amn't bothered whether it is flying civilian, commercial or combat aircraft.

Why not get one of the older MS Flight Sims? - Available 'freely' on your favourite peer-to-peer network. Not as resource-hungry, and lots of expansion packs etc availabe too.
I didn't need it for free; just wanted to play it now 
I'll have a look at MS2004. One of the reasons I want it is that I was using the flight simulators that astronauts train with in the Johnson Space Center recently and I though that was great fun. Although anything I can buy probably wont be comparable.
FlightGear seems to be a pretty decent freeware alternative to MSFS, or if you want to try your hand at something a bit more exotic there's always Orbiter...
Falcon4.0 is pretty decent, although you should track down Falcon 4 Allied Force as it's the reworked version that got rid of a lot of bugs.
There's a ton of mods for F4AF I think there are two streams towards ultra-realism, but I can't remember their names.
It's a very steep learning curve though and at full realism I found I died with no idea of what had shot me down.
I recently got IL2 and wasn't that impressed really, it really showed its age and I had a lot of trouble getting my CH controls to work with it. Still it ran on my laptop which is handy for when I'm on the road.
FSX still stands up as an amazing piece of work if you have the system to run it. It works on my laptop too, but I needed a couple of config hacks to beef up the FPS and I can't use all the flashy features. FS2004 is just as good and has many more free add-on aircraft and scenery.
Wednesday my Core 2 quad-core arrives and I really can't wait to see what I can turn on in FSX with that setup.
