(SFW, but needs sound)

Note: I've never played Halo 3, and nor am I likely to. This bloke's reviews make me laff.

rofl

ing brilliant clap

I thought it was just me...frown I bought it in the flurry of purchases made by the PH Gears of War gang. I played it for half an hour and thought it was shit.

I played multiplayer with the boys for an hour and thought that was shit too.

I hate the guns...I think its crap. frown

I've played Halo (thought it was boocks) and Halo 2 (only for a bit, thought it was boocks) and never really understood what everyone was raving about. The only gun that's remotely accurate is the pistol (which makes a handy-dandy sniper rifle), and I was amused by the bit in the review about the stupid aliens - I thought they were some kind of joke at first in Halo, and was not at all amused to find them throughout the entire game. I can only assume that it was the only FPS that XBox owners had played, and hence they thought that this was "combat evolved", or something. This rang rather hollow to people who'd played Q3A (the Threewave CaptureStrike mod still represents some of the best multiplayer fun I've ever had) or UT2K3/4.

Mind you, the PC version of Halo was afflicted by some of the worst mouse lag I've ever had to deal with, and that took the shine off it somewhat. And it's so BORING. The fights are just the same - dash out, shoot a bit, dash back in, wait for shield to recharge, lather, rinse and repeat.

The fact that the setting was ripped-off wholesale from Iain M. Banks' Culture novels (note, Bungie, that there's a difference between 'inspired by' and 'stealing lockstocknbarrel') didn't particularly endear it to me, either.

Each to their own smile

I personally find Halo 3 to be the best FPS i've played.

It used to be cool to mock Halo as it often promised more than it delivered, I used to do it myself, especially after the disappointment that was the Halo 2 campaign.

Halo 3 has got it spot on though, more multiplayer tweaks than you can shake a smelly stick at and 8 very good campaign levels (1 stinker) that have that replay factor that made Goldeneye and Perfect Dark so good.

Have to say, I never got the fuss with Halo and still don't really.

Have bought the third one, wasn't originally going to but figured I may as well give it a look. At first I felt immensely let down, and certainly not 'game of the decade' as the box states! Single player has since picked up a bit, but I found Bioshock a better single player FPS experience.

Halo to me just feels like it's trying to be half life and failing miserably.

It has picked up a bit now I'm further into the game and I'm now enjoying it, although still not utterly amazed in anyway.

Multiplayer however, seems to be great fun! Especially as the mrs likes to play it with me too biggrin

I'll finish off the single player, keep cracking at the multi for a couple of weeks to fill the time, then I have no doubts that I will be chopping this in for the Half Life Orange Box set, which I know I'll enjoy far more. (I'm poor so I usually trade my last purchased game for a new one when it's finished, although I keep the good uns that I'll likely replay).

This guy makes me laugh a lot, think most of the stuff I've seen from him is spot on if not a little exaggerated.

I liked the Halo games - the first one was a good Sci-Fi story and had a plot that was better than many films. But, yes, the gameplay wasn't and isn't the best, but it was still very enjoyable.

Gears of War was crap though. I keep meaning to put my copy up on eBay.
