What are people's thoughts on some of the new weapons in Halo 3, and changes to some of the old ones.?

New Weapons

Spartan Laser-Very powerful but it has a slow fire time which exposes you to danger and the fact you can only fire 5 times means you have a choice of either 'wasting' it on low value targets or going through most of a level with one weapon you don't use hardly at all.

Brute shotgun-seems rather useless to me. Seems less powerful than the human one.

Gravity Hammer-awesome

Brute Spiker-Good rate of fire and option for dual wielding.

Changes

Needler-They've made one of the best weapons of the past virtually useless. The magazine is too low and there is no dual weilding option. The old Needler is sadly missed.

Spartan Laser - Stand in cover until it's almost fully charged, pop out and wave around until you see a likely target, then fire. If no target presents itself, release the trigger and nip back behind cover, repeat.

Brute Shotgun - Dual Wield it for double the shotgun fun.

Gravity Hammer - Agreed, best weapon in the game if you ask me.

Brute Spiker - Not bad when dual wielded, but removes the ability to throw grenades or use it's rather nice blades for melee attacks, so I tend to ignore it.

Needler - I totally disagree on this, they have pumped up the power on this badboy now (hence why you can't dual wield it anymore, otherwise you'd be unstoppable) used to be something I ignored, now it's something I actively hunt out, there were plenty of fellow PHers who fell in an explosion of pink needles on Saturday night who can attest to how nasty it is. Only need to get 8 needles stuck in someone and they're done for.

You can still melee whilst dual weilding, you just drop the left handed weapon.

I agree with the needler, it's a devasting weapon if several of the needles stick.

I still think the battle rifle is one of the best weapons. Good stopping power and good range.

Yeah I know you can melee, but then you stumble around like a drunk who has dropped a load of change, trying to pickup the second weapon again, whilst a pack of angry American teens swoop in like vultures. I'd much prefer to keep the default assault rifle and have a similar rate of fire, grenade throwing ability and no hassle rifle-butting to the face.

Needler - rules in a narrow corridor.

Brute Mauler - is a great weapon, bang-melee-dead!

The grav hammer - is a good weapon, but too slow for more than 1 on 1, its also handy to swat stickys away (try it)

Brute Spiker - great duel wealded with a large magazine. yes

Spartan Laser - This just rules, I usually get 5 for 5, sometimes more with vehicle takedowns smile

Yep. Go to Melee and you will automatically drop one.

I will have to give the Needler another look I didn't notice they had upped the power. I was just missing that great feeling as you unloaded 30 Needles into an Elite and watched them explode.

I am loving the brute shot, the spiker, and dual plasmas is fun, but the basic assualt rifle is a sound weapon.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm just not down with some of the lingo and weapons:

Melee?

Needlers - and their uses?

Melee? Shirley not, basically hitting people with your weapon (suits you sir!) or fist.

Needler is just a garish pink gun that fires glass-style needles into people, once you get enough stuck into them the glass shatters and rips their body to pieces, nice.

Spartan Laser :- Good new addition & pretty much the only thing that'll stop PAULD996RS in his flying machine you censoredbiggrin

Shotgun :- one shot, one bitch slap = dead enemy so very good.

Gravity Hammer :- not too keen on this personally but ok.

Rocket launcher :- bit dissapointed no lock on

Needler :- it was shite in the 2nd game & although a bit more powerful in the 3rd, it's still shite.

I like that way you can carry the chaingun about with you.

There aren't as many places up on the sides to get a good sly sniping position.

The vehicles are where I'm most dissapointed, they lack power going uphill and when driving about at full chat as soon as you turn the engine dies a bit. The new Quad doesn't splat people but is good for having it sideways.

I've been pretty impressed with the new weapons during multiplayer as I hardly needed to change away from the Assult and Battle rifles in single player. Also found it pretty difficult to judge their power when shooting Grunts and Brutes, opened my eyes big time when I got totally stuffed by a guy with dual Maulers on-line!

Have since found a real soft spot for dual Spikers, Spiker with Mauler and Gravity Hammer! Was also really impressed with the Flame Thrower and the ability to take turret weapons for a walk.

Not had much experience with the Spartan Laser yet and can't decide if taking the lock off the rocket launcher was a good or bad idea but on the whole I've been really pleased. Is it me or is the sniper rifle easier to aim whilst on the move now?
