xbox360 questions
Discussion
Thinking about buying an xbox360 soonish, but i've got some questions first.
How do the wireless controllers work? IR or bluetooth or what? I want to keep the unit in my AV cabinet and i'll have no direct line of sight, it'll be about 3m away too, is this going to work ok?
Can anyone clear up if the core system has hdmi out or not? xbox site states you can get a hdmi cable for it, but im not sure if it has hdmi out.
Anyone run a console with a projector? I've been told that unmoving images in games can damage the screen?
oh yeah and as for the fun bits, i was a big fan of gran turismo, whats going to appeal to me more, forza? pgr4? or something else?
or should i just not bother and wait for gt5/hd whateveritis on the ps3?

Forget the core system (which historically hasn't had HDMI anyway - although new units built after a certain date now MAY have it) - if you're buying it for gaming, you'll need the hard disk drive (which doesn't ship with the core system) and the core system (from memory) only has wired controllers anyway.
Go for the premium system and Google how to check whether you're buying one with HDMI output or not - you need to check the serial number, I think.

1. They work on a radiowave wireless signal, you'll have no worries with them being in a cabinet, I quite often pop downstairs to grab a beer from the fridge and carry on chatting away. How do the wireless controllers work? 2. Not sure about the core system having HDMI, all the new premium ones should do and you shouldn't even be considering a core system anyway.
3. So long as you don't leave it on the same screen forever you should be ok, I.e don't leave it paused for long periods, but if you find you're playing one game forever you might find in extreme cases that things like the speedo on a racing game or other static items might burn themselves on permanently.
4. Forza 2 is fantastic, PGR4 is more arcadey and there are plenty of cracking games in just about every genre on the 360 now, Gears of War, Halo 3, Oblivion...
By all means wait for GT5, but looking at their previous form you might be waiting until Christmas 2008 or even longer, GT5: Prologue will be out this Christmas but it will be a light snack of a game compared to the full feast you'll get with GT5 or Forza 2.
