I bought a GP2X (not the new F200 though - it wasn't out then) to replace my PSP.
I have to say it was a big mistake. I know the GP2X isn't meant to be as polished as the PSP, but the whole thing is very cheap. The DAC is pants and music distorts at reasonable volume, the firmware sucks, it plays hardly any music or video formats straight out of the box, almost all the Open Source software for it is buggy and alpha with few offerings having version numbers that don't start with "0." and the sites that list software for the GP2X are full of cruft so you can't sort the wheat from the chaff.
In short it's been a bit of a disaster for me and is currently sitting on my desk waiting for me to get round to putting it up on eBay.
Edit: I bought it through my company as a potential development platform so bought the docking station, case, SDK and everything. Cost around £200.

Ummm... I thought the emulators would have been up to scratch as they have been done to death.
Had a number of emulators running on the PSP and that was a real PITA to get working but they did work well. Just the psp is pants, its to big and the are controls cheap. Really would like a portable emulator player...

Oh, well if you want emulators (including playing MAMEs) then the GP2X will certainly do that. That's the one thing it excels at. I never bothered because I'm not really into retro gaming.
Incidentally, the PSP has been cracked wide open now and there's almost as much homebrew for the PSP as there is for the GP2X.
But, yes, if emulators are your primary focus then I believe the GP2X would be great for it.
One final thing, if you think any aspect of the PSP is cheap or nasty then you'll not like the GP2X.
