PS3 HDD upgrade?

Simple question really: I heard mention that the PS3 HDD is upgradeable to ANY 3rd party HDD - Is this true? Are there any restrictions to this? (size, speed, configuration, etc), and what is the connection (e.g. SATA, SATA2)?

Also, if it is true, is it just simple plug and play swap, or is some kind of config required for a new disc?

Fairly easy job, there is a guide here:

You need a notebook SATA drive for it. Thinking about doing it myself at some point, especially when they start bringing out more games that will run off the HDD.

you can also use a 3.5 HDD but you will need an extral housing with its own PSU. but then you can fit upto 700 GB.

As soon as you plug it in, it will auto reconise and format the drive for you.

Shouldn't do as the drive is interchangeable, you don't need to open any warranty voiding screws to access it. You can always save the original drive to swap it back in, if you decide to return it to Sony.

Hmmm, that's interesting. I may well stick a big whacker in there and transfer all my music across to it then.
