XBOX360 Account & user name.

Dumb question time i'm afraid.

BG junior has had a gold XBOX account for a year or two, with a particular user name. But he has also signed up to an additional gold XBOX account for a months free trial with a different user name, which is now coming to an end.

He wants to cancel the original subscription and sign up with the later one as he prefers his new user name and not the original one.

Not being very bright about how these things work, I would have thought he could just change his user name on the 1st account? But he says not, and gets a bit arsey when I suggest that's all he needs to do.

Can he just change names? or do I have to cancel one and start another?

Here are some instructions, looks like you have to pay though! (From Google):-

First step: Log into Xbox live account and go the Xbox Live blade of your Xb 360 dashboard.[*]next select the profile bubble, it's the first one, and it should take you to a screen with about 6 options to choose from.[*]Click on edit profile and there should be an option to change your gamertag.[*]Click on that and change your gamertag![/list=1]
The only problem is that it's gonna cost you 800 marketplace points, and that ain't too cheap.

Trouble is that he can't change his old username to the new one, as they stay active on the servers for about a month after they expire so the person who registered it can still re-activate their account.

XBox live is effectively seeing him as two people now and he won't be able to switch his old name to the new name.

Might be worth a call to their customer services dept. To see if they can offer any suggestions, it's not something I've ever done myself though, using two accounts.

You can register another live account on the same xbox, saves paying to change an existing name on an account that you can let expire. The only penalty is you lose achievements.

You can change the name on an account as said before, but you have to pay. If he already has set up the account, and has two accounts, then he is stuck with both. The second account he has set up, will only automatically delete if it is in-active for 6months, then, and heres the bad part, the name cannot be recycled into use. Once it has been deleted, it's gone forever! If he's just paid for 12 month live on the old account and doesnt wish to use it anymore, its tough!
