X-mas present PS3 v XBOX360
Discussion
i really can't decide so its over to you, the good people of the PH gaming section
for £450 what is the best i can get this christmas?
all the deals i've seen so far for both consoles are sold out (I've only looked online so far) so are these likey to come into stock before x-mas?
For PS3 i had worked out that i could get a 40gb console, COD4, FIFA 08, assasins creed and a controller play and charge kit for £427,
the trouble with xbox's are that its going to cost me £90 to get it online (wirless adapter/xbox live) so if i want to get an elite then i am limited to only one game this x-mas, so is it really worth it for an elite (apart from the hard drive whats the difference any way?)
what exclusive games are coming out for the 360/PS3 that are worth looking at?
i've got it as
for PS3: MGS(big one for me), HAZE, KILLZONE 2, GT5 (another big one), Final fantasy
for Xbox: Mass effect, PGR4, Halo 3 (played it and not sure if i like it, havent played online though), fable 2(semi big one), lost odyssey
worth mentionining that i've had a chance to play most of the best games this year for xbox360 as my brother (who is now at uni but will be coming back next summer) has one
including Gears of War, Dead rising, oblivion, Bioshock etc.
also i already have Forza 2 for Xbox360
i know there are a lot of questions here but if you can answer any of them then you have my thanks

im sure you can get an xbox online for a lot less than £90. i managed to get a game with 12months XBL Gold for £35 and used the included ethernet cable to get it online.
And going by my PS3 owning friend, XBL is a damnsight better than the sony equivilant.
Also, if you are a true car enthusiast, you will want forza2 and PGR.
Have you considered going for the premium console rather than the elite? Could save a few bucks and pave way for another game or so...

Elite is only worth it if you plan to use the upcoming video functionality or love black and hate spray painting.
I assume 90 quid is cost of live gold + wireless? you can use a cheap wireless bridge instead, or use a cable, and live gold is around for 25-30 quid I think.
PS3 is getting soem better games out but the 40gig lacks PS2 compat, and the games just dont seem to be selling.
In eevry multi platform release its the 360 version that shines, framerates, graphics, achievements etc.
+ the PS3's controller is sucky, the 360's is ace.

I'm in a similar position . . . will either of these consoles act as some kind of media server thingy (technical term there) if I connect via cat5 network cable to my office PC? I would like to be able to download hi-def TV shows on my PC, then watch them downstairs through the console on the big screen. If I can access my music library through it then even better!

Both will do it yes, XBox works with media centre PCs for full functionality, but will do limited bits on a non-Windows Media Center PC. I use my PS3 for pretty much all my Media Centre needs though and it will soon be able to play DIVX videos which is another plus, XBox is getting the functionality soon too, but you'll still need a Windows Media Center PC for the full experience.PS3 is the best choice if you don't have a Vista or XP Media Center equipped PC.
Xbox360 - Next Question!
For a cheap way to connect to live run a CROSSOVER cat5 cable to your PC network port and share the internet connection. Cheapest way to do it. Cost of the cable only.
I have a router (netgear) and I prefer this way as I dont have to have the PC on for it share the connection.
Action games to get- Halo 3, Call of Duty 4
Racing- PGR4, Forza 2
RPG- Oblivion (Game of the year edition)
Fun/Party- Viva Pinata/Scene-it.
Dont forget rechargable batteries and a charger (dont bother with the play/charge kit as its mince)
I got 4 X 2700mA AA's + Charger for £14.99 takes 30 mins to charge and lasts for about a week.
Xbox Live subscription too (if you manage to connect to live)
ETA: in stock now is the V2 Xbox360 (white one with HDMI) for £214.99 Delivered next day with a free copy of crackdown. On http://www.shopto.net/page.php?page=dettagli&c...
Happy shopping.

If you believe that it's a fair comparison...shows assasins creed back to back with the 360 against the ps3. therses a big difference it think between the 2 in terms of quality!

Quite simply, xbox 360 is better now. In the future, PS3 has the potential to be the better choice, IF, they ever get any decent games on it... (By then XBOX720 will probably be out
)
PS3 is only worth having if you can read japanese or live in japan, as all the decent games only get released over there..

PS3 it has to be, games are better quality... online works better and is free ! Plus the games on the xbox have peaked, however they are still improving the PS3 games as they get more used to the software so will blast past the xbox soon....
Simply put - if its for a child get the cheaper Xbox, anyone over the age of 13 get the PS3

depends on what your after.
the 360 has a better choice of games (and now has cheap ones as well) - and from what ive heard, is much better online.
The PS3 has nicer looking games, but very few good ones - but does have a blueray player.
If it was my money, id go for the 360 (not elite).

If your short sighted and can only live for the now then 360, If your blessed with good common sense then PS3 is the way forward. (ducks for cover)
Here is an example, out of 7 guys at work, 6 of us have 360's and 1 has a PS3. PS3 guy hardly ever plays it, plays his wii more, as there are hardly any games out for PS3 worth buying *yet*. He admits he bought it too early, and that it was an 'investment for the future' which is what your arguing? However, while he is not playing his ps3 due to lack of games, the rest of us are having fun on our 360's playing online together on the better online system (At £3 a month, anyone with a job wont even notice its costing them anything! So that can't be used as an arugement!) and getting our moneys worth in the meantime. Sure, in the future if PS3 has any good games on it that are not already on 360, such as RPG's or any of the sequels to the numerous great games on PS2 that haven't appeared on PS3 yet (Gran turismo 5 being one of them. Oh, I don't consider Gran turismo HD to count as a game..) then I will get one.
