Logitech Momo Force + PS3 + Colin McRae Dirt?

Hi all,
I have a Logitech Momo Force steering wheel from a few years ago that seems to work with GT HD on the PS3. However, can't get Dirt to recognise it which seems rather odd as apparently it has pretty much the same internal workings and software as the later wheels that (again apparently) do work with this game.
All the game offers is the same 4 preset hand controller setups.
We have tried turning the PS3 off and on with the wheel plugged in and powered up, tried looking through the PS3 main settings and all the game control options.
I'll try the Codemasters forum soon but just wondered if someone here had a simple solution first?
