I'm not sure if I'm missing something here or not......

One of the games I got for Christmas was Halo 3, I played it last night for about 10 minutes and got completely bored of bouncing around with a crude child friendly aiming set up, in a dull constantly green enclosed scenery shooting odd enemy with odd guns.

I really dont undertsnad what the hype is about, do I need to get a bit further into the game to see these amazing graphics and gameplay people are on about?

I think I have been spoilt with the graphics and gamplay of COD 4!?!

I like the fact you can form a full opinion of a game within 10 minutes of playing it, you should be a games reviewer...

Thats just the point, with every game I have ever played I know pretty much within the first few minutes of playing whether I'm impressed and like/enjoy the game. If the first 10 minutes dont inspire me or make me interested I put it down.

If you know differently ....then explain and answer the question rather than leaving a useless post.

games are like movies sometimes. not always a good start but get much better as you play more. this is not always true but worth thinking about

My brother in law got a 360 and halo3 for xmas, i went to see them a few days later, i left 4 and a half hours later really wanting a xbox and halo3.

Not played COD4 yet, i'll have to try it. i had the 1st one on the ps2 wasn't overly impressed.

First couple of levels of Halo3 I found boring, up until "Storm"

It's alsi fun to play on legendary difficulty.

To be perfectly honest - Halo 3 was one of the reasons i bought my xbox (i didnt realise id have an 18 month wait at the time!) - and I found it a massive dissapointment.

While it was pretty, and not a bad story (score was amazing) - all in all it was a bit too short (unless you went hardcore and spent your time have to hide and conserve ammo, but i found that boring) and if anything, there was too many online options.

Worth playing certainly, but I actually thought GoW was a better game overall.

Apart from the bit about buying the console for the game (I bought my 360 for Forza2) I agree with Ian, I got very bored with Halo3 very quickly. It just seems too 'sanitized' and clean.

And COD4 is even better than GoW

My friend said to me there were other games other than Halo for the Xbox. That's how much I would play it and I didn't really want to try any other shoot em up as I'd not be ranking up on Halo. This was until everyone suggested COD4 & now I hardly play Halo.

Halo - Good for the family except the language in the pre-game lobby might not be good for kids.

COD4 - more for the seasoned shooter & on your own. Also quicker rank promotion.

Never played GOW so can't speak for that.

H3 was a perfectly decent game - it just didn't live up to all of the hype that had surrounded it. The Halo franchise had never really grabbed me so I bought it without any real expectation - it quite enjoyed it on normal but got stuck replaying it on the next level up and haven't really been bothered to go back to it.

It lacks a certain something that makes you stick with it, even when it gets frustratingly hard, that some other games have...

Can't see me going back to it again when I've got COD4, Orange Box and Mass Effect clamouring for my time, so my copy will be going on ebay soon!

Play Halo3 online in xbox live and then see how you think - it's bloomin addictive and great fun

Then when you've practiced on live you can go to the solo game and wup through it fairly quickly...

Great game off for a few rounds on it now (Shotdude is my live tag)

Have to say I agree with the op, I've never seen how the hype is deserved where halo is concerned and the third was no exception, certainly much better fps's have been released this year and a couple haven't had to hold up a criminally mediocre single player experience with the 'but online is good fun' excuse, neither have they had to rely on cranking the difficulty up to the highest setting just to make the said pony single player game worth playing.

An utterly average game (in fact series of games) with one hell of a marketing budget behind it in my honest opinion.

And yes I did own it and I did play it online and I still traded it in after 2 weeks...

I agree with you. Campaign mode is ok, but it's online multiplayer where the real fun is to be had... especially when you get good and start anihilating the noobs.

Also, I find that the "match making" system is pretty good. For those who've not experienced this, it's essentially a system where players are ranked by skill and experience and when you search for a game to join it will match people of similar skill and experience and even up the teams so it's always a fair fight. I've lost track of the number of team games I've been in which have finished 49 to 50 or 50 to 49, it's always good fun. You know when you won that you played well and deserved to win, and that when you lose its becasue you played bad and deserved to lose.

It does take some commitment to get into it though. For example, because the weapons are "not earthly" its not so simple to work out the realtive strenghts and weaknessess of each. But its worth it IMO.

(Note to add: I've got COD4 for xmas, but not opened it yet due to playing Halo 3 the whole time.)

The thing I like about COD4 is the class system. Instead of starting with a crap gun and having to run to find pickups, you just choose what gun you fancy for the match.

I am loving the snipey action in COD4. Strangely I hate the sniper in Halo 3.

I bought my xbox for Rainbow Six Vegas, and although I was pissed off it was so short, it was amazing. I remember playing it last christmas. In that street that has a tv overhead, having a firefight with some bad guys while some simulated fighter jets flew over head.

I felt the same. There are some levels and set pieces that are good. Some levels & areas that are plain awfull.

I found it very unconected, not much pace, not much kick either (due to sounds?). I'm not even going near the 'plot' or the repetative running back on yourself through every damned ing level crap.

Its better in multiplayer but IMO my worst gaming buy in 2-3 years and a realy big letdown.

Trouble is every fekker already owns it so its worth shit on the used market.
