I know I'm living in the dark ages but I'm determined to finish this game. I need to complete the Le Man 24hour race on the no chicane Mulsanne course and that's all the circuit races complete.

How the hell do you get the B-spec mode to not crash on the Mulsanne? It's somewhat vexing when the car inexplicably plows into the barrier half way down the straight every other lap. I've used various cars, most recently the Sauber C9 with the suspension jacked right up in the hope this would give it a smoother ride. But no joy.

Also I've got to the point where the B-spec driver's skill points don't seem to increase after races anymore so I assume it's about as good as it's going to get.

two things you need to buy, chassis refresher pack, and increase rigidity, me and my friends did this race for the whole 24 hours because we are sad, and after about 6 hours the car became almost undriveable on the bumpy straight. after buying these two things it was fine once more. you can run about 70mm ride height on the C9 at Le sarthe without any problems usually. if you b spec it you just have to leave it in the slowest setting. its quicker than crashing....

I also found that is was best to start the race in A-spec for a couple of hours, you then build a bit enough lead that even if you do crash, they don't catch you up smile

I seem to remember a similar problem happening to me.

With the b-spec though it is just a case of setting the driver to drive normally when the tyres are good and the conservatively when the tyres start to wear. If you are just going to leave it build up a lead and just set it to conservative all the time.

That works as long as you have the best car. I am pretty sure I used the Audi for Le Mans.

Thanks Folks.

I can't face driving the whole 24 hours so I'll try what you suggest, build up a lead of a few laps if I can then hope that's enough to compensate for the inept b-spec driver.

Incidentally, why does it deliberately steer at the barriers?

Is there some kind of bug where it uses the B-spec AI for the track variant with chicanes on the track which doesn't have them?

For some reason that sounds kind of familiar.

I just completed this race recently after many, many attempts. I did this:

Use the Mazda 787B on B-Spec mode. Hard front and Super hard rear tyres. Gear for a max speed of about 340km/h. Large turbo upgrade, body stiffening, body rigidity, high downforce and normal suspension settings, with medium traction control and no stability control. Try to get it so it does not spit sparks the whole way down the straight. The AI will sit on the red line in top gear not the limiter.

B-Spec settings to Overtake and Medium Pace. The AI will still overtake cars with it set off, just not as aggressively.

The advantage of using this car is that the AI pits 1 lap later than all the other cars. Over 24hrs this adds up to a huge advantage. Let it refuel and change tyres automatically whenever needed.

To speed up the game, time the pitstops and go back every 20 mins or so to set the speed back to plus 3. Or just leave it going for the full 24.

The reason for the AI slamming the wall seems to be that it constantly corrects the steering at extreme speed. Over the mulsanne bumps it over corrects and tries to "unspin", but the frankly awful AI gets confused and doesn't realise what is going on until it has stopped. 340km/h seems to be the upper speed limit before it performs this ridiculous dance of death!

this sounds like fun, i might go out any buy a PS2 and this game just for the Le Mans race, and also because i am bored of Forza and NFS on the 360. how far into the career mode are the indurance races on GT4 and how long does it take to complete the career?

I wouldn't take that as rote.

I must have spent hundreds of very enjoyable hours playing that game. You should be able to pick up a PS2 and the force feedback steering wheel and that game pretty cheaply.

Put it this way, I happily bought all that after playing the game once - and that was at the original selling price of the kit!

The endurance races take a while to unlock though, but it is worthwhile playing the game through to then to pick up the skills to challenge at that level first.

Play it with the force feedback wheel and you wont regret it. From the limited selection of cars I have driven in real life that are on it, I can say they are pretty close - well as close as you will get with a £50 steering wheel attached to your coffee table in your lounge!

There are plenty worse ways of spending your money, put it that way!

It's been a while since I played GT4 (my ps2 now has an eerie death rattle whenever I switch it on)
but I was able to get around the "B Spec into a wall" problem by running minimum downforce. I also read on the GTplanet boards that once the BSpec driver has accumulated enought experience points, it stops running into the wall altogether.
