X3 reunion.. is this any good?
Discussion
It seems to get rave reviews, was wondering if its worth getting and what the people on here who have played it think?
I liked freelancer but that lacked variety somewhat and is quite old now so was looking at this one since there doesnt seem to be anything like it out at the moment except eve online which i dont have the internet connection for.. plus i dont like the subscription idea.
Is there anything else in this sort of genre to consider at the moment? or anything about to be released?
MV.

i had X2 - The Threat and it was dire. So much so i crashed 10 minutes in and i could never get it to work ! But when i did play it - it was shite.
I played freelancer loads and loved it. Played it online and was part of a hunter clan and patrolled the systems and went on raids into nomad land
If you are looking for a similar level game there isnt anything else out there as far as i know - yet.
X3 is a bit more heavy if its significantly better than X2 then i dont see what other choice you have. Eve is far too heavy for any normal person with a social life !

Hiya MV
Played Freelancer 2, X2 & X3. X3 is a big step up graphically from X2 and you'll need a reasonable spec PC to play it with the pretty bits turned on
. Make sure you get it patched up, as it had some FPS issues (amongst others) when first released. However there is a really big community releasing quality mod packs with new ships and storylines. I recommend however you stick with the original game (think its referred as the 'Vanilla Game') to get the feel, then enjoy the mods at a later date.
One area were it's poor compared with Freelancer 2 is the story and it feels that your very much on your own and not taking part in some galactic whirlwind event. Mind you I have not completed the main storyline so perhaps I can't comment! However I was concentrating on building my empire where this game comes into it's own. It's not a game you pick up for a quick blast and leave for a few weeks, then play again. I have not played it for about 8 months and If I do it would probably take me a number of hours to get to grips with it again, checking my stations resource levels and insuring their supply ships are doing what they're supposed too.
It's rewarding to see your stations selling their wares (at high prices!) when you've spent sometime researching the local area to see what demand there is for certain goods. Ship to Ship combat is ok, but not as satisfying as say Freespace 2 (A landmark space shooter. Amazingly a ten year old game!) however you do get the bonus of capturing ships if the pilot ejects.
If you get it, stick with it. It might be a little slow to begin with and you may get frustrated, but it only takes a bit of fortune when a pilot ejects, you capture it and then you can sell it. Then you'll find your income starts to rise exponentially.
Good luck!
