Would a 3070ti be limited by a 6700k and ddr3 at 1440

Anyone got an experience of this set up?

i7 6700k @4.3
32gb ram (DDR4) (edit to DDR4)
1070ti
Its struggling with most games now.
I have 2 x 1440 monitors.
I know I should probably bite the bullet and get a new machine as its 10+ years old now. It came with a 970 and I upgraded to a 1070ti after a few years when they were cheap and its done ok until the last year or so.

You probably wouldn't be able to extract the full performance from the 3070Ti but it would still give you a big boost for more detail and higher resolutions - plus some nice perks like DLSS and Ray Tracing.
And the beauty of the PC architecture is that you can upgrade the CPU/mobo side of things in the future to fully realise the potential of the GPU.

You could upgrade to a Ryzen 5 series and keep the ram to re-use with it. AMD are even re-releasing the 5800X3D and pretty sure you can still buy new AM4 mobos. Or go for secondhand, likely lots of choice.I started my current desktop PC with a i7-6700 and 1060,then went to a Ryzen 3700X (keeping the memory and disk storage) with the same 1060 .. I mostly use my Steam Machine for gaming (on the TV) now and the desktop PC only really gets used for PCVR titles. I'll still occasionally stream from it via Moonlight to the TV for some demanding AAA games or even use GeForce Now. 90%+ of the gaming time is with the 'underpowered' Steam Machine though so IMO you don't really need the latest and greatest.
I would not be surprised if the next big trend in the PC gaming scene is devs optimising their games to actually use hardware efficiently instead of just assuming everyone is going to be buying beefier CPUs and GPUs. Even quite low-mid level hardware is very capable if properly used.
Yeah kind of my thoughts. I bought this machine new in 2016 and its served me well. But like you say the ram is still capable.
A new mobo and CPU would probably see me through another 5 years at the rate I am going with the "new" graphics card.
I am stuck on Win10 too with the 6700 so going to Windows 11 might be worthwhile too for the long run.
Will see how this new card goes first - then think about what to do next.

My last gaming box was a Ryzen5 5600x with a 3070 (non Ti) and the main thing holding me back then was the CPU. I've recently upgraded to a Ryzen 7 7800x3D and it's a world of difference with the same video card and SSDs (went from 24 GB of DDR4 to 32 of DDR5).
I think a CPU from 10 years ago would definitely be a limiting factor.

Just an update and after a little advice, I have now installed the 3070.
Having 2 problems.
First is on boot - it sometimes boots ok other times I get an error "windows failed to start".
Second is my fans are all running flat out. Even when the machine is at idle.
I checked system usage just in case it was doing something and nope its just the fans on max for some reason/.

You don't state which fans, but for starters assuming one of them is the CPU cooler fan, I'd boot in to the BIOS & check all the fan profile settings within as this should be controllable.
If GPU related then check the Nvidia driver app, similar to the above . . .
As above Fan Control is a good app, but maybe try the above first before installing additional software?
MSI Afterburner app can also be used to control Nvidia GPU fans.
I'm not the best at Boot issues, but might be an SSD that is starting to fail ?

Use DDU to remove the old drivers and install newer ones (your 1070Ti would have been on the old nvidia drivers). As it sounds like a driver conflict issue. Also double check the power cables to the GPU are plugged all the way in. Having 2 problems.

Weirdly today it booted fine and also fans working fine. They are defo running differently to before - more reactive but that might be the fan software above.
Given I am likely to change CPU and MOBO at some point I think I will see how it goes from here. A quick test in beamng shows c.70fps where as with the 1070ti I was at 30 ish.
Will try bodycam later for the newer gfx stuff.
