Now they're full on 'dynamically pricing' digital download games according to your purchase profile.... (ie. Will this schmuck pay more for a title)

https://youtu.be/Srb5t09lOrs

.. seems that they are determined to make gamers hate them. They just keep putting their foot in it.

Personally, the only stuff I'll consider buying for my PS5 is physical discs, usually secondhand off eBay or at least on a discount deal from Amazon or wherever. Maybe I'll get Control:Resonant new on disc when it comes out (or maybe I'll wait for a discount) but absolutely no 'digital downloads' on PS5.

Sony are almost certainly assuming GTA6 sales will break records despite all the bad press over the outrageous cost, lack of physical media and the attitude of the company.

Is anyone surprised?

They know they own the PS fanboys. Now it's time to take them for every penny they've got.

They're all at it; got the xbox e-mail this week capping cloud-gaming at 5, 10 or 15 hours per month depending on your gamepass sub-level - oh but you can buy more hours for extra cost.

Sony have been on the backfoot for a while, charging punters full price for digital downloads of games that have been out for 10/15 years; they got their nose bloodied by a couple of catastrophic mis-steps with main studio games that cost millions but flopped and they're finding every way possible to recoup their lost earnings. The hay-day of console gaming is truly behind us.

Yup well I have had a Playstation for a rather long time now, Ps1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 (3, 4 and 5 are still in my lounge) but I will not be getting a 6 if it is digital only.

It's coming to everything why do you think they are building all those data centres and have a TV listening to everything you say, once they have the compute the loop will close and you'll get targeted pricing for everything (but not in a good way) we'll be acting like foreign agents in our own homes, fingers on lips pointing at the TV and writing things down instead.

I'm not buying a PS6. PS5 will be my last. I barely play games anymore. I'd rather be up a mountain with the dog. My busiest gaming month is normally around Christmas but there's nothing coming I want. No interest in GTA.

Nvidia did similar on GeForce Now quite a few months back, too. The restrictions didn't impact me as I only occasionally use the service and was nowhere near their newly imposed limits but it would suck if you were relying on Cloud gaming as your main way to play games. A taste of what is going to come when all console gaming has been moved to cloud.

I did have Gamepass Ultimate as I got a year free as a bonus with a new broadband contract and then kept it because I initially got a discounted price once the freebie expired - but after MS hiked the price up I cancelled as I couldn't justify it for how little I used it. A shame, because I quite liked the cloud service (there was even a client for Quest VR headsets). The PC side was awkward because their games often didn't play nice with local streaming and not at all with Steamdeck/SteamOS.

Sony however seem to be pretty arrogant and tone deaf, even by the 'standards' of the corporate gaming industry. Announcing the end of physical publishing in the same week that they de-authorised a bunch of digitally purchased movies, without refunds, did not do them any favours. Now going full on into dynamic pricing (ie. squeezing the customer hard for as much cash as they can shake out of them) is laughably bad PR. Especially as they outright admitted their new goal isn't go grow or improve their products/service - just to monetise the existing userbase harder.

It might not be their fault that source prices on computing components are rocketing but they could have handled things and managed PR a LOT better.

I suspect there will be another video game crash coming. People are getting tired of being taken for a ride just for the few good titles that are coming out amid all the sludge.

Whole industry could do with a good shake up tbh.

Amazing how Sony have burned through their goodwill so quickly (although MS and Nintendo have had a good go of it as well)). First there was Concord, possibly the biggest disaster in media history, then killing physical discs so they could corner the market and control prices, and now this. They've also spent a few hundred million on Wolverine which looks like the most generic 6/10 slop you could imagine, and almost a parody of AAA games where it has to hold you hand so you can walk in a straight line and every female character looking like they're 50.

Lost Kojima this week the headlines just keep coming.

I won't be getting a 6 even if they bring disc's back - I have 1 game for my PS5 which is the most expensive Gran Turismo I've bought so it's pointless. I'm sure they'll all end up in the same place even Steam bot for now they are ok.

Even PS5 has completely passed me by, stuck with my PS4 Pro for the tiny amount it's used. Had Playstations since PS1 in 1997 - but this generation has not produced anything I have to play - and GT7 is on PS4. Only other thing that'd compel me is Ace Combat 8 and that's a big overall spend for an arcade flight sim. I don't have the time to invest in GTA6 (and in Rockstar fashion it'll not work at launch anyway).

The Ocarina Of Time remake has more more excited than anything the PS5 has had so far.

The absolute amount of grinding slop on modern games, which all started with MGS4 imho, has slowly ruined gaming.
I don't want to spend weeks and weeks on the same game, I just get bored and throw it on the "I will finish it at a later date, although I will never play it again" pile.

Ocarina, a game that has a path, allows you to just crack on with the next dungeon if you want, and get the game completed in a few evenings, is what I want.

I have just played RE, RE2 remake, perfect length.

In a world where you can easily spend £100 having a bite to eat down the pub on a Tuesday night, so what if a video games lasts 10 hours. If it is a great 10 hours....great!

Fun from start to finish without the padding is why the PS1 and PS2 were so good, it is why I loved the Sega consoles, and the Neo Geo, and the older I get the less I want some 50 or 100 hour marathon.

The new Starfox I like the look of, same with Metroid and Ocarina, along with a few other titles, so for me, someone who bought a Japanese Playstation with Ridge Racer on Japanese launch day (for £580! back in 1994) I am done with Sony and have ordered a Switch 2 tonight and will sack GTA6 off completely on launch.

Couple of mates are doing the same.

We're already in the early stages of the crash IMO. You can see console sales have been on the decline for a while, lots of AAA games that cost many tens or even hundreds of millions to make are failing to make the money back, console hardware is getting more expensive over its generational lifecycle rather than cheaper and gaming PC hardware has shot up in price to the point where it is killing the self-build PC hobby.

On top of that, certain games studios are still putting out expensive-to-make games paid for with investor cash, that have been designed to please the 'activists' who have infliltrated them rather than appeal to the gaming market .. and sell f-all as a result (or at least far fewer sales than otherwise). Bring on the weeding-out.

To fair, the PS5 (either model) is a great way to play PS4 games. Arguably, the biggest selling point of the PS5 Pro is the boost for select PS4 titles.

That said, the only reason I eventually bought one was because I wanted a UHD player and Sony had just released the 'Slim' model which was a big improvement in aesthetics over the OG Behemoth, which tipped me over the edge. I was pleasantly surprised at the backwards compatibility improvements in PS4 games.

I'm exactly the same as you. So far the only thing I would want a PS5 for is GTA6 and Ace Combat 8....and for FF7r parts 2 and 3 (I have part 1 on PS4 but am only halfway)

After 10years I've still not finished RDR2! I'd play it for afew months, but then not play it for years. After that I'd say to myself I'd rather start fresh. I've done this twice now, 2nd time i went as far as the fork (IFKYK). I want to play it again and i'm thinking ill restart it for a 3rd time.
same with gta5, burnout, wipeout, hell I feel like starting them again from scratch. It's been afew months since I've played AC7 and I feel like starting that from the start again!

One thing I don't like about my PS4...playing FF7r the bloody thing sounds like a jet engine.
