Hi,

Does anyone know of a (preferably free) DVD authoring package?

It's only for my home tapes (holiday type stuff not naughty stuff! ) but essentially I'd like to be able to do the menus etc. It'd be great if it also allowed short clips & music to play whilst the menu was shown.

I got Pinnacle studio with my DVD writer so I can create the movies - it's the menu stuff I am particularly after.

Thanks,
Phil

I've used Microsoft Movie Maker for a while now and find it very good - free download too

Pinnacle Studio 8 or 9 are pretty good.

The only problem i found was their ability to lay down music. Didn't seem particulary intuitive.

Thanks for the responses everyone. Sonic MyDVD seems dead cheap (way cheaper than I was anticipating)... but I'll probably have a look at Studio 8 as I have 7 and may be eligible for an upgrade (not sure how OEM software works in these cases).

Cheers.

You need to go with Studio 9 if you go that route...

However, the two most highly recommended tools for DVD authoring are Adobe's Encore (that's the one I use avialable at www.adobe.com) and a tool called DVD-lab (or DVD-lab pro) available at www.mediachance.com/download.htm (30 day evaluation download there).

When it comes to authoring, you get what you pay for.

Don't bother with uLead stuff; it's not very good.

Windows Movie maker doesn't have the facility to burn to DVD (although I'm happy to be corrected if I'm wrong.
