which brand SD cards?
Discussion
looking to get a 1Gb SD card for my FZ20, and was wondering whether it's worth going for a premium brand, and if so, which one??
I want a fast-write-speed one, as the slowness of the card I have made itself painfully aware at donnington this weekend!!
the one I'm looking at at the moment, is the Corsair 1Gb 40x Lifetime Warranty, which is £45+VAT at a few places...
anybody know any better deals??

Lexar or Sandisk...
Any recent thread on here about Compact Flash will point you to vendors who also sell SD Cards. Usually it ends up with whoever it is buying one of some ebay vendor.
I buy my stuff from www.valuemedia.co.uk - used them for ages, usually the cheapest give or take a couple of quid and very good and reliable.

www.ebuyer.co.uk normally does good prices on Lexar SD cards too.

thanks for that...
Corsair no good then? or just not had any experience of them?
will go and check out that site now.
Who are they, I've never heard of them. I guess they are just rebranded el cheapo cards.
Your better sticking with known brands, such as Sandisk. If you want speed go for the Ultra's.
Corsair are famous for VERY good PC memory - popular in the highbrow world of overclocking - they recently announced memory with a display on it to show you how fast it's running...
However, the accepted leaders with proven track record and reliability on their side are Lexar and Sandisk.
I use Sandisk Ultra II or Extreme.

It depends on what camera you are putting them in. The faster it is, the faster it dumps picture out of the buffer and the faster you can take more pictures.
Have a look at the CF Database on www.robgalbraith.com to see if you will get a speed benefit in your camera by buying the faster cards...
Not many cameras write to cards at much faster than 6Mb/sec.

Thanks. Although my camera wasn’t listed on that site I found some info about write speed on DP Review.
I have the new Minolta Dynax 7D (I think I am the only one on here who isn’t either Canon or Nikon!) and it seems that the cards make quite a difference. They quote around 4.5 mb/sec for a Lexar Pro and a little over 6 for a Sandisk Extreme III. So it looks like I need to treat myself to a faster card.
