Er, well....

...not entirely true, but not my fault!

I've discovered that generally the best way to get creatures to hang around and be photographed is to catch them at meal times.

Spider's lunch is aphid's demise in this case.

D70 45mm AI-P reversed onto PK-13 F11 1/180th at ISO 400 (cropped to about a third of original area)

Pretty much

I have no idea how things worked before we had histograms!


Oh - they didn't: that was the problem!!!!

I keep trying out different close up ideas (as you may have noted), resisting the temptation to buy another lens just yet!

180mm with either or both close up lens and PK-13
85mm with PK-13
45mm either or both reversed and PK-13

..and, not for the feint-hearted:
55mm reversed onto 180mm
20mm reversed onto 85mm

The 45mm is easiest to handle, and must be getting me better than 1:1. The 180mm useful if you can't get too close.

Exposure is a doddle compared to getting focus right!
