Clearing my mother's house and came across my grandads Hanimex slide projector reels and hundreds of slides, but no projector. The box, instructions and remote control/switch are there, but not the projector.

It would be nice to recreate my childhood memories of him projecting his holiday photos onto his living room wall for us all to see, so I could buy one on eBay, but are there any other options for viewing slides without buying the projector?

If they're just snaps, or you only want to see them in that way*, there are cheap slide scanners around but if there are a lot of slides it'll be a long job to scan them all as the cheap ones do one at a time. There are services to do that for you, of course. And there are handheld slide viewers, basically a slide-sized light box with a magnifier, but that's really for individual viewing. Plenty of slide projectors on car boot sales and recycling groups on Facebook for probably a lot less than you'd pay for postage on eBay - I've acquired a few as I buy boxes of random slides in case there's anything good** in them and they sometimes have a projector in the box.

( * as opposed to top quality photographic masterpieces)

( ** street scenes with interesting vehicles in them)

Thanks. It would be nice to find a projector to recreate the experience of my grandad displaying his photos to us all on his wall, and the distinctive sound it made each time it changed slide. But at least there are hand projectors available as a back up. Will be interesting to see what's on the slides too.

There's a few Rondettes on eBay, eg https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/236761656890

Thanks, but I'm unsure if the Rondette projector will accept the circular Hanimex brand slide magazines that I have?

The top photo shows you holding a photo of a Rondette so I assumed that was the missing machine... or maybe he just threw the leaflet in to fox his descendants!

The Leitz Pradovit were highly regarded in their day - I had one and can reocommend them. I think (but don't hold me to it) that the (linear) slide magazines were readily available.

While the resolution you get these days with digital images is in a different league, the impression of depth you can get with slides and a decent projector is still rather impressive.

You're right, sorry, I didn't scroll through the eBay ad photos and wrongly assumed it was a different brand frown
Sadly that one is collection only from far away, but I'll search for others smile
