Excuse the image quality. I have scanned them at a low resolution and the detail from the prints has not come through.

Thought I'd share these as I was pretty happy with them. I took over 100 pics on the day and am pleased with the majority of them which is unusual for me! Especially since I didnt use a tripod and have a non IS lens. (I like 'em, just cant afford 'em!).

EOS300 (not "D"...yet!)
Canon 75-300 USM
Canon 28-90 piece of crap knackered lens
UV or skylight filters
For the majority t=1500

They look better when bigger, honest!

After reviewing them I decided that for the next race I will be selecting a slow time and following a car in order to create a blurr for the profile shots.

Do you think 750 would be adequate for this?

Take a look here for a bit of advice on different techniques.

I tend to use 1/125 - 1/500 for racing shots, but haven't got enough decent ones to say which speed works best for me.

Another useful article here

Thanks Ed.

BTW: Did you notice the distinct lack of chicken mesh fences in my pics?

Now you mention it - yes!

Did you manage to get behind the fence at all then?

Nope, just found a couple of new spots at Donington.

It is still the best circuit for spectators and photograhers IMO.
Pretty good for drivers too

I was impressed with Castle Coombe layout too. They have thought about the spectators there. Still not as good as Donington for photo opportunities though.

I found that 1/60th was about right on the tighter corners but suggest you experiment between 1/30th and 1/125th. A lot depends on whether you're standing on a slow corner or a fast straight.

thanks testicle!

Just as an experiemnt I set the speed to 1/2000th and aimed at the fastest point of the Mulsanne straight during Le Mans.
Those cars go bloody fast.

Opps, accidentally on purpose posted the wrong pic!

It was difficult to even capture the whole car at its top speed (over 200MPH I think). Had to have it zoomed out or wouldnt have stood a chance!
(BTW: Didnt expect these to be good. Was just an experiment due to the very high speeds).
