As a package.
£949 = EOS300D + 18-55mm LENS + 1GB JESSOPS COMPACTFLASH CARD
JessopsLINK

Seperately
£120 = 4x256M CF cards from Novatech
£100 = Sigma 18-50mm lens www.warehouseexpress.com
£600* = EOS300D body (with battery and charger)
£20 = Car charger.
£840 = Total.

Possible change of lens to;
£340 = Sigma 17-35mm lens www.warehouseexpress.com
Brings the total of the seperate package £80 higher than the Jessops deal. I guess the advantage of the seperates is the better lens and the spread of memory cards.

*Possibly.

Edited: Sorry for taking over the forum! When I get the camera I'll book into one of those glamour studios advertised in the back of the mags and post the pics for you. Failing that, I'll just post up more pics of my own pussy (cat)[/samll]

Have you seen the deals on www.parkcameras.co.uk?

Just as an example, they are doing the following for #940

Canon EOS 300D Body + EF-S 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 + Fuji 1GB 20x Compact Flash + spare Canon BP511A Battery + USB 2.0 Card Reader

Might be worth giving them a call to see what they'd do for the body, 17-35 lens and 1GB CF card.

Also, bear in mind that you can get different speeds of CF card, with the faster ones being more expensive, so check to see what ones Jessops are including.

Dusty,

I saw this on an IT site the other day. I am not sure how the performance compares but the price is very good.

2.2Gb Magicstor V3 Compact Flash / Microdrive Media x24 Speed 2Yr Warranty UK
£96.75 Ex VAT
£113.68 Inc VAT

Link is here...

www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=85285

Does anyone know if these are any good?

Excellent!

Add "post again!" side too!

I've actually got one of those bits of paper that you fold up and place on your fingers.
"pick a colour", "cosmos blue"
"now pick a number", "500".....

I suppose I could always modify it!

I'd get the 18-55mm EF-S lens. It is designed for the camera and the results are superb.

I don't think so. You have to buy it with the camera or not at all AFAIK.

The man speaks the truth.
It also states that it only works with the 300D so perhaps its not a good purchase anyway.

That's hard to believe. It might only work with Canon DSLRs though, for reasons of connectivity and image area.

This lens uses the new EF-S mount, and has a ?short back focus system' which mounts the lens closer to the sensor than previous models.

This means it won't fit the usual EF mount, and the only camera currently fitted with the EF-S mount is the 300D.

I'm not aware of any other Canon lenses not being suitable for the 10D or 1D, unless they are old versions?

Right again. But it is some of the tamron Lenses that dont fit the 10D and 1D

www.parkcameras.com/cameras/slrcameras/sigma.htm
says;
AF 18-50mm f3.5-5.6 DC + AF 55-200mm f/4-5.6 DC (for Digital SLRs except EOS 1D, 1Ds)

My guess is that they are using their own verson of the EF-S mount.

Anyway, if you can afford a 1Ds, you can afford pukka Canon lenses!

ETA: It looks like they are designed for Digital sensors, and my guess is this is for the sensor sizes that the 10D, 300D and Nikon D70 use (approx 1.6 crop ratio).

As the 1D and 1Ds use bigger sensors, I imagine that these lenses don't cover the full area.
