Having bought Mrs TDi an Ixus 500 digital compact for her birthday, I now have a spare 35mm SLR.

It's a EOS 500 with a Sigma 28-200mm lens.

I'm tempted to try and sell it on ebay or similar or part ex it along with my EOS 50e when the new EOS 10D becomes available.

Anyone got any thoughts on what to expect to get for it if I tried to sell it, or will I get more by part ex against a new body ?

First thing is - if you enjoy the control the SLR gives you, the compact won't match it, even though it is a good digital. You may of course be planning to go without that control until you get your paws on a DSLR!

If the old one has to go, p/ex is sure to give you a rubbish price. I'd sell it privately, and eBay is probably the easisest way. However, the longer you leave it, the lower the value I think as the market fills up with film SLRs
