Has anyone used this Camera? I'd like some feedback on them. I have my DSLR and use it quite a lot, but always have to carry my rucksack around with all the lenses in, which can be a bit of a drag when you want to carry something else. I also always tend to find myself needing to change lense which can often take too long. i.e taking photos of a landscape then notice a bug on the ground or want to take a closer shot and something specific.

So they usually take time to change the lense over for the required shot.

I'm not expecting the P900 to be as good as a DSLR, but are they good enough? they seem to be the camera that can do anything being that it zooms equivalent of (I think) 24mm-2000mm, plus it would save me carrying a great rucksack around with me.

I searched for a thread, but nothing turned up so sorry if this has already been covered.

But look at this for an example, it looks pretty good. OK the quality at full zoom over that distance isn't great, but there is a lot of haze between the camera and the plane, but imagine this for viewing birds/insect without disturbing them.

ETA fund this one rather amusing also.

Cheers Steve, the images are pretty decent even at long range and at full zoom (Look at the motorsport images toward the end), only thing I can see as a problem is the sensor is quite small frown 6.17 x 4.55 mm, why wouldn't they make it a bit larger, even a cropped frame sensor would have been so much better, but still looks to be a decent all-rounder to carry about in a single package.

What's the matter? is it not the done thing because it doesn't cost a fortune and you can't show off how many different lenses you have? rolleyes

If this is the typical attitude in the photography forum I think I'll just give it a wide birth. Thanks for the heads up.

No it's not smile

I think the general feeling about bridge cameras are that the image quality is not great and they are not small enough to be pocketable so there's no clear advantage over a DSLR. Why not look at a properly small compact instead - eg Sony RX100 which gets great reviews smile

Or... buy the P900, take some great pics, and prove the doubters wrong thumbup

Thank you smile

I understand they're not exactly ideal and if I had the intention to go out and photograph something specific to display/show, then I'd certainly take the DSLR with me. Carrying a DSLR isn't the problem, so a Bridge wouldn't be either, it's carrying the big ruck sack that goes with it, so I don't often have the camera with me when I see something I'd like a decent shot of and my phone or the small compacts aren't good enough for.

If I could have something quite reasonable (quality wise) and would be a good all rounder, mainly for shooting wildlife, I'd have it with me a lot more and capture more of the interesting things I get to see.

Might just take a chance when they drop in price a little and see how they are.

Fair enough - good luck with it if you do decide to try one smile

...and funnily enough I bought one just for giggles smile

Photos are really underwhelming, only JPGs, tiny sensor etc but if you are happy with only 1080p P900 is a really cool thing for video!
IS works great, I can actually handhold it at 2000mm and have usable footage biggrin Also shallow depth of field and bokeh is really good due to focal length, even despite small sensor and f/6.3 aperture.

I'll take it for next holidays, 2000mm can be really useful when sending a drone is not too safe/too much hassle.
