I had it for few days and love it!
Just wanted to share it if anyone of you was like me, wondering whether it's worth the money. IT IS. If you can afford it as a second camera - DO IT
It's the only Sony camera I enjoy using. Controls are spot on and it's got my favorite mode! : M with Auto ISO and Exposure Compensation on a dial.
I'd say there's no difference in IQ between RX1R and my 5D MK3 with 24mm f/1.4 (I don't have a 35mm prime anymore)

I hate you for writing this.
I've always lusted after an RX1, and keep looking at them, then not buying one.
I have a D7100 with a large bag of good lenses and also an RX100 mk3, and I have to say I absolutely love my little Sony (apart from a minor query over bright lights as mentioned in my other thread).
The Nikon hardly gets a look in these days as I use the RX100 for most things, take it everywhere, and only really use the Nikon for more complex/technical stuff such as light painting etc.
I still have that full-frame itch that needs to be scratched and it might have to be an RX1.
My only beef with it is the size. It's too big to slip into a jeans pocket like the RX100, and its not as versatile as a DSLR with respect to swapping lenses etc. So if it's too big to fit into a pocket... You might as well use a DSLR.
But never mind any of that... I want one.

Well, I carried it all day yesterday in my shorts front pocket... I kid you not, I drove for two hours with it in it too.I've always lusted after an RX1, and keep looking at them, then not buying one.

Do you think Sony will be updating it soon?
They have forged ahead with the RX100 and stuffed it with NFC/Wifi, tilt and fold out screen, pop up LCD viewfinder etc and I'm kind of thinking the RX1 could maybe do with having those things added now?
I personally find the Wifi feature extremely useful as most of my photos go straight onto my iPhone/iPad via wifi and the Sony app before being uploaded to the Internet. I kind of enjoy not having to use a laptop anymore.
But maybe it's not that kind of camera and the people that use it will usually want to run things through Lightroom etc.
I think I'll just have to buy one at some point.

No idea plus if they will I'm sure it will be £2k+ which I wouldn't spend on a compact... I got the RX1R with 3 years warranty for £1350 which is RELATIVELY good VFM if new RX100 is now £850!!!

Wifi would be good but I don't use an iPad, instead I carry 12inch Macbook Air. Just bought a USB C to Micro USB cable and it makes it a great photo travel combo : Full frame + full lightroom + no need for camera charger and card reader.

Thread resurrection!
I just traded my Canon 6d in for an RX1R (the mk1, as mk2 was unavailable and the cost to change when it came into stock was massive - the cost to change to the mk1 was much more palatable).
My DSLR just wasn't getting used as I got fed up of carrying it around just to take a few snaps. I swapped to the RX1R and now have it with me most of the time (easy when it's coat season - the summer might take a bit more planning). The quality is amazing, and I'm sure it will get better as I get more confident with it.
