I know you closed a few of the Jessops stores when you took over - think you may have missed one....

Sequence of events goes something like this:-

Saturday

Nigel: - I'll have one of those, and one of those please... (body-only deal and separate lens)
Jessops: - no problem sir - where would you like us to send them?
Nigel: - eh? you haven't got them in stock?
Jessops: - no sir, we'll have to get the lens from the warehouse and the body from another store
Nigel:- OK - send them to my office address
Jessops: - can't do that sir - must be to your home address or collect in-store
Nigel - so why did you ask me? I'll have to collect in-store, as there's nobody at home during the day and I doubt (hope) the courier won't leave it behind the wheelie bin....
Jessops: - No problem - we'll order the stuff on Monday and call you on Tuesday and confirm they are here so you don't have a wasted journey

Tuesday - phone call

Jessops: - Hello Nigel. Just a call to let you know your lens is here
Nigel:- Great - what about the body?
Jessops:- That's on its way to your home address....
Nigel: - *#@$!? madfuriouspunchbanghead

Its not rocket-science is it, although I can't say I'm surprised. Why has it got to the point where I almost expect to be disappointed and I feel good when somebody simply does what they are supposed to / paid to do

To be fair, the guy knew they had screwed up. The solution now is they will get another body and recall the one that's in the courier system.

edit - courier got lucky and found a neighbour down the road that was willing to sign - God knows how many doors he must have knocked to find someone at home AND that knows me well enough to sign

Ah well, panic over and I get to play with my new toy

Trouble is - wifey will know I've bought something.....

Unfortunately that's what happens when the consumer won't pay more than they have to for something - the level of service drops to the absolute minimum.

Picked up the lens tonight and the manager was very apologetic - hadn't got the heart to lay into Jessops

In all honesty, until this cock-up, my experience was good - the staff were knowledgeable and keen - much more so than if I'd gone somewhere like Currys/PCWorld

Price was good too - was a toss-up between using a grey importer like Portus and paying extra for a high street presence. Until Jessops advertised a £350 trade-in, I was finding it difficult to ignore Portus, but the trade-in discount tipped the balance

Now to get to grips with full-frame....

That's the problem with giving them your home address.

Am I to take it that the delivery company left a fairly expensive purchase at the address of someone who could be a complete stranger to you - perhaps not even a full time resident at that address?

Awesome.

Yup - Yodel left it with a neighbour two doors away. Thankfully, I've known her for half of my life (and about a third of hers) and she's 100% trustworthy. She's a lovely lady, so may well have told the driver that she knows me well. I assume courier companies have some kind of a policy for leaving parcels with neighbours.

FWIW, I doubt the driver knew what was in the parcel as it was a plain brown box (which incidentally means Wifey hasn't twigged, yet...)

Some might, but in my experience yodel don't care. I recently had some Open Uni books left with a neighbour in a different street. I'd never met them before and don't expect to again....!
