I've got nothing much planned for this bank holiday Friday and was thinking of going to Silverstone for one of their testing days. It seems to have a mixture of open and closed wheel cars, which sounds like good photography practice.

Does anyone know if these days are open to spectators, or if I'd just get asked to leave if I started wandering about with my camera?

As long as its only clubbies, then no issues I would say.

I have a feeling that there might be some GT3 and LMP2 teams testing, given the timetable. Not sure if they'd count as clubbies?

Just rang them - they confirm that testing is not available to spectators. A shame!

I'm surprised by that as normally there aren't any restrictions on spectators and the majority of the testing on Friday will be Britcar competitors preparing for their race on saturday so hardly anything top secret. I'll probably be heading down although I work with one of the teams who will be testing so I'll get in anyway but I'll try and remember to update this thread and let you know if I get stopped on the gate and have to present some sort of ID.

Failing that just come down on Saturday, it should be a good day.

Maybe they just meant that the stands won't be open on Friday? There aren't normally any restrictions on test days.

Alternatively, come along on Sunday. It's a 'fun' day so free entry for everyone.

The circuit is open to spectators so feel free to pop down. Loads of single sealers, a smattering of classics and quite a few GT cars.
