Vimeo or similar for private family video back up/sharing?

Hi all,
After painstakingly uploading all of our old Mini-DV home videos onto our new 27" all singing, all dancing iMac, I'm at the point where I think I need to have alternative back ups and sharing solutions.
Now, obviously I back up the iMac with Time Machine, but I would like to have an off-site back up solution that also enables me to share videos privately with family and friends around the world without the need for burning DVD's/Blu-Ray's or sending flash storage.
I've been looking at Vimeo, which looks quite good value at £49.95 a year for up to 5gb a week, 250gb annually. If I go over that then it's £159 for 20gb a week, 1tb annually.
Does anyone have any experience with Vimeo? Are there alternatives that I should look at?

I uploaded a few largish dash cam videos (440MB +) onto Mega without issues and they provide a video link for you to email to friends/family, etc. so is very easy to share the files.
Flickr seems a good idea and certainly it works very well for uploading images, however I tried using Flickr last year to upload a few videos but could never get it to work. Problem I think with Flickr is that the management team seem to be obsessed with meddling with the interface and keep breaking things in the process!
One other thought is have you looked into Google 'Cloud' storage option, I've never used it but assume that being Google it will be relatively easy to use.

Not too sure about YouTube - as I understand it, you create your own channel, which you can make private. But would you have to create a new channel every time you wanted someone to see a certain video, but not others?

Youtube allows you to set each video as a number of different statues, Public, Unlisted or private. Public speaks for itself
Unlisted can be viewed by anyone with the URL
Private requires a password.
Someone with a link to one unlisted video cannot see another unlisted video unless they have the link to it.
The nice thing about youtube is the optimisation for available bandwidth, allowing anyone to watch the video, no matter how good their internet connection is.
Dropbox et al are great, but do you want family to have to download a 4Gb file before being able to watch it? (for example)

Dropbox streams in real time - just like YouTube - as well as being able to sync.Does YouTube have a limit on amount of video you can upload?

Not that I'm aware of. Once you've verified your account, individual videos are limited to 128Gb or 11 hours.

OK, so YouTube does work very well. iMovie has a button that automatically uploads your selected video straight to your YouTube account (also does it for Vimeo).
It just seems crazy that I can do this for free - is there a limit to the amount of storage you can use on YouTube, or a time limit to how long your video can stay on there?
