NIkon D7100 viewfinder issues.

I got a D7100 moving from a D70 and I'm noticing the viewfinder doesnt show whats captured in the image. It only captures an area in the middle of the viewfinder.

It looks like this a bit:



So only the bit in the square in the middle is captured. Why does it do this.

Does it on my f1.8 35mm and f1.4 50mm. In fact, I think it does it on all my lenses.

Just googled D7100 1.3 crop mode and I think you're right! I don't know how it's ended up in that mode.

I was thinking maybe my lenses weren't compatible with this body.

Why would you want to use this mode?

Found this, but I'm still not sure why you would want this?

'Free zoom'. That said just because a camera has a feature doesn't mean you will need it.

Crop mode also allows you to use the two highest frame rates for 1080 video. Not that I have used my D7100 for video yet but I did watch loads of Youtube videos on the D7100 before I bought mine a couple of months ago.

doesn't it also give you 7 frames per second in still mode?
Not that 7fps is much good on a D7100 due to its tiny buffer

If you've just got it and the settings have been fiddled with, I would recommend resetting the camera by pressing and holding the two buttons with green dots next to them. At least you know you have a base starting point in case anything else has been changed.
