I'm thinking about getting a better camera bag, mainly for holiday flights.

I currently use a Tamrac rucksack to carry my Canon 5d mk3 with 24-105 and 70-200 as well as various filters headphones etc. I recently bought a Lumix G1 that's IR converted so I'll need to carry that as well (until I get bored of it, or upgrade it).
The thing is that the bag is pretty heavy when loaded up. It also seems to have a lot of wasted space as it's pretty deep but doesn't hold that much.

I've very rarely used it as a rucksack once we get somewhere. I'll typically just take the 5D and one lens out with me, possibly in a small bag.

I've been looking at roller bags, more towards the Think tank airstream. Another possibility is buying a padded insert and using a cheap carry on case.

What bags are you using? Any recommendations?

My wife and I have F-Stop Lokas. They just fit the hand luggage size limits, aren't too heavy and are very well made. The internal configuration can be changed with different inserts. They've been superseded by the Anja, which looks just as good. The downsides with F-Stop are high cost and poor availability.

+1 for Fstop bags. We use a couple of Loka bags at my work for transporting canera gear on planes. Very well made- worth the cost, as they last forever

They look like very good rucksacks, none with wheels though?

I have a Loka UL, just on hand luggage size, easy to overload weight wise tho.

But I would steer clear of FStop for now, the company is in a mess and if your thing is on back order do not send them money. Its OK if you can walk out of a store with what you want, otherwise...

Do you know which one it is?

Is it pretty robust? I was looking at these or the lowepro equivalent but a few reviews said the Think tank has a better layout with less wasted space.

I don't have one with wheels - but a shoulder bag that fits perfectly into above cabin locker.. takes camera gear, laptop, pockets for passport, books etc - and room for a change of clothes. They are really well made.

ETA This is the one I have: https://www.thinktankphoto.com/collections/urban-d...

(They fit much more than the photos show - look at the customer photo 'Gavin Blue' to see what I mean).

..I'm sure the wheels one will do similar.

I use a Billingham 106 as a carry on. (107 is the current model)

Very well padded. Zipped with the flap done up, can just shove it under the seat in front and not worry about it. Large zipped pocket on rear for travel docs/passport. Pouches for phone /wallet/chewing gum etc.

Very well made. Had it 17 years or so and still looks brand new.

Never been a fan of wheeled camera bags. Cringe when I see them rattling over rough surfaces and bumping into kerbs etc.

The thing is that I've always used backpacks, but as the gear I want to carry grows I'm getting tired of carting it about.

Current holiday pack is -
Canon 5d Mk3 with 24-105
70-200
IR Lumix G1
Microsoft Surface or tablet
Headphones
Filters and holder
Remote release
spare batteries and memory cards
Powerbank.
Hard drive

I'd need to weigh it but it's getting pretty heavy all up. The current big backpack is a Tamrac and it's quite sturdy on it's own.
I bought a cheap trolley thing to attach to the backpack and it's nicer to drag about than carry, but the trolley is pretty crap and limits access to the bag.

When I'm actually on holiday I take limited gear out with me so the backpack lives in the hotel or car most of the time.

I should probably stop taking the 70-200 with me and cut down on the other stuff.
