Looking for a decent camera bag for my son for Christmas. It will need to carry his Nikon DSLR + kit lens along with up to two more lenses, filters, battery SD cards etc. but I don't want it to be too big. I've been looking at the Lowepro Adventura series.....

Curry's also do the 'Format' series that also look quite good although the Adventura looks more rugged:

Anyone have any thoughts on this matter, or any other bag suggestions feel free to chip in......

I picked up one of the new LowePro backpacks (Flipside Trek) last week, early impressions is that its great... might not be quite what you are looking for though. There's a whole range of different bag styles available, backpacks are just my preferred option...

what sort of photog does he do ? will he be walking around with his gear a lot ? travelling ?

also, in the images online they are normally a bit deceptive as to actually what they can fit in...

head over to wexphotographic they have a massive range...

Mostly out door kind of photography, nature, landscapes, cityscapes etc so needs to be water resistant, I was not really looking at a back pack because he normally has a backpack anyway, but might have to reconsider....

Most of the Lowepro bags contain a waterproof cover that's stashed under a flap integral to the bag/rucksack. I'd recommend the biggest and best rucksack or be prepared to buy a bigger back/rucksack every couple of years. With a rucksack you can always use the pouches for other stuff so you still only end up carrying a single bag.

Neither of those Adventura bags are big enough for DSLR + two lenses.

There's a "bag finder" on the Lowepro website that will help choose the size and style of bag
