Need a new speedlite

My old Nissin Di600, it turns out, does not work with my Nikon Z6 II. I've had the camera a couple of years now, upgraded from a D610 and only just got round to trying the two together.

I'm therefore clearly only an occasional flash user so I don't need anything super fancy or loads of features, just need to be able to generate a bit of extra light when the need arises. Mostly this is just bounced off a ceiling or wall or sometimes through a Magmod, shoot-thru umbrella or an octabox.

What's decent these days, and priced for what it is?

Godox make some good stuff at good prices. I wouldn't look anywhere else.

My advice would be to buy the best used OEM one you can source at your budget from the likes of Wex and MPB.

I’ve always found Genuine Nikon Speedlights to be the best, but I don’t have a Z series body, just my D750 SLR.

I’ve got what I thought to be bargains off Facebook marketplace.

Here’s one I found for the same SB910 I have, which I use with two other off camera flash speedlights.

You would have to check the compatibility with your Z body of course.

As mentioned above, the Godox stuff is really good value for money. I have a couple of V1 Speedlights (you would need the V1N for Nikon) as well as 2 x AD200s and 4 x AD300s, been using them for pro work for about 3 years and they've been great. They're cheap enough that if you drop one it's not the end of the world, and there are often discount deals on for most models.

And then balance that approach with buying good Nikon stuff used, and important for the OP, it’ll still work with new Nikon cameras many years from now.

Agreed; if you're a professional there's no excuse not to use the proper stuff - and you can offset the cost against tax. I had two SB800s but sold one after I stopped doing weddings.
