Are there any photography books that people can recommend for learning photography concepts correctly?

If I was you I'd proceed on a 'FAFO' basis (as I believe it is put these days!) - stick it on auto and see how you get on, try different compositions etc and find out what works for you. If you get stuck on something ask on here

There are two things at work - the technical aspect and the arty aspect. I'd suggest trying to get a grip on the basic technical side first, so you understand a bit of what's going on in the camera, and worry about composition etc as you go. Exposure, composition, depth of field, field of view. Stay with JPG for now.

One thing - read the manual. Much of it won't make sense yet but try. It won't tell you how to take better photos but at least you'll know what the buttons and menus do. Cameras are complicated; there's only so far you can go by poking it and hoping.
