Just replacing the knackered aerial on the S. It seems to be working fine but I have a small questions.

There is a serated washer that on a metal bodied car would effectively earth the aerial. Should I run an earth wire to this, would it improve the reception still further?

BTW it's just a fixed aerial not electric or anything as I want the boot space.

Normally (as in TVR's usually have...) there is an aluminium mesh sheet bonded to the fibreglass on the inner surface of the wing to act as a groundplane for the aerial. Either this washer is connected to the mesh, or an extra wire is connected between the mesh and the metal base of the aerial.

Personally, I would avoid the serated edged semi-circular earthing collar that some aerials have as it may eventually start to chew through your fibreglass with the movement of the aerial (I have had this happen on a previous car). A separate earth wire is the best way to go.
